How can you tell just by looking at the plant? If it grows outdoors real well then what do you think it is?

I went and cut 3 Fan leaves off. One was blocking where there are multiple leaves beginning to grow. The other 2 were just covering up some other sites as well. Do I need to wait before I cut anything else such as topping. So it can re cooperate over the night and the week to come?
