My buddy has had his plants growing for 2 weeks already, and the first set of leaves (the ones that first show up on the plant, the lowest and smallest set on the stem) are turning yellow. The rest of the plant is healthy besides this. What could be causing this? Is it bad? Thanks!

Most likely put them into deep. Dig one up and check, if you did just take off some of the top soil, exposing the head.
