3 inches with no real leaves? That sounds like stretching to me! Listen, get an extra 25 watt and bring the plant within ONE-TWO INCH of the cfls - no further. The fluorescents, as you know, put off hardly any heat. so simply place a small fan nearby and that should fix your problem temporarily...

Yes! thats sounds like an awesome idea! I live in a trailer so I should be able to pull that off since my vents are below the floor. Shenagan...how far a distance is the floor vent from your light and is there any curves in the ducting? does it make really matter?
