Why is Cannabis Illegal?

I just started "using" cannabis this summer and the more and more I learn about the plant, the less I understand on "why" it is illegal in the first place.

My findings include,

- No one ever getting lung cancer from cannabis use alone.
- No one ever getting permanent brain damage.
- No one ever dying of an overdose.
- Over 400,000 people in the U.S die each year from smoking, yet still legal?
- 79,000 people die each year from alcohol poisoning each year, still legal.
- Over 110,000 thousand people each year die from obesity related problems, yet Ronald McDonald still has a smile on his face?
- Caffeine has been proven to be more addictive and have a harder withdrawal than Cannabis.

Either people are really stupid or I am missing something...

its illegal so the cops can make money ,
its illegal because the goverment hasnt found out a way to make money off it yet ,
its illegal , ,, i dont know why :(

Its illegal for hundreds of reasons.

1) It expands the mind and makes you more aware of the world around you. It makes you more likley to ask questions then simply nod your head. Therefore it makes you more difficult to control and more likely to be aware and/or lash out at the ever increasing methods used to control you. Therefore illegal.

2) It is a direct threat to the cotton industry, the forestry industry and most importanlty the Pharmaceutical industry. 1 acre of hemp produces the same amount of paper/wood/pulp product as 4 acres of trees. But it takes 50 years to grow the trees and just 1 year to grow the hemp. Therefore illegal.
Big Pharma makes drugs and then sells them to you at 7000% profit. Like fuck they are going to let you grow your won medicine and self-medicate. They aren't just going to let a bunch of surfs tear down their empire. They spend millions lobbying for tougher MJ laws and against Medical MJ laws all in the name of "public health". They haven't spent a cent lobbying for tougher crack, meth, alcohol, tobacco, heroin etc etc laws. Therefore illegal.

Need I mention the funding of the Police Industrial Complex that has grown around us over the last 40 years?

Profit prisons?

Like Coals said for reason number two as well as the fact that it cannot be patented by a drug company. The size of the industries that lobby against legalization is astounding.

the first car was apparantly run on hempoil as well.

basically, the reason is, big money. (greedy powerhungry ticks and parasites.)

and enforced by the fact that most people are sheep, following wolves :)

sheeple.

so far , anyway.

what you know bout sheeple,

and pots not legal because DUPONT didnt want there tree paper competing with the more cost effevtive hemp,at time he spent lots of money on what wsa new tree pulp machines or something,,,Plus we didnt realy like Mexicans at the time and they all smoked it so it was the old 2 kills with one stone trick.

And that boys n girls is the way it was.

lobbists there still at it .

Dupont is a chemical company so im not sure where that conection is coming from....but the notion is correct.

The Mexican thing was just a way for Anslinger to scare the public into beleiving his propaganda.

Its more than just lobbying. Its also the trading of top officials from positions of power in the companies to positions of power within the government regulators and vice cersa.

Roger that, its just a detail anyway.

Opium - chinese
Cocaine- blacks
Marijuana - blacks and mexicans
Its all part of the congressional record when being racist wasnt frowned upon

It is illegal because it is related to the Hemp plant. The big forestry companies and paper manufacturers would not be able to compete with Hemp if it were legal. MJ also makes you think critically, and the Government doesn't want Intelligent people capable of enough critical thought to realize how badly they are getting fucked.

The Mexican thing was from the Media, specifically newspaper giant and magnate William Randolf Hearst who owned about 70% of the newspapers and also owned large tracts of forest and was partnered with DuPont. His yellow journalism is what set off the Mexican and black racial tensions concerning drugs.

dupont-

invented alot of petroleum based synthetics around that time.

petroleum that was easily replalced by hemp oil

You can also thank Richard Nixon. Before he started the "war on drugs" he commissioned a study on America's drug problem. The committee was stacked with conservative anti-drug types. But guess what? They came back with the expected recommendations on stuff like cocaine and heroin, but recommended against making marijuana illegal. Presumbably under pressure from many fronts (textiles, energy, pharma, construction, list goes on), Nixon included mj in his war on drugs. Not only that, he had them put it in the same category as cocaine and heroin. "Reefer Madness" was a commissioned work, I believe.
The rest is history.
