Hot shot no pest strip placement?

Hey all.
I have a 1000 ft.³ room. I am doing my first scrog and will be flipping 12/12 soon and want to use pest strips prior to flowering for some thrips. I placed three in the room for three consecutive nights setting them on top of my lamps. However I noticed that they didn't effectively get everything in the room. All ventilation, exhaust and interior fans, were off. I am considering hanging them from the scrog screen to get them closer to the plants. Has anyone ever done it this way? I also read an interesting review Amazon where a guy said he placed it directly on his oscillating fan and let it blow down on the plants all night. Has anyone ever tried this? Please feel free to recommend how you've used them and how they have worked quickly and efficiently for you because, obviously, less is more when it comes to chemicals. Thanks!

i use them, and they work well. i usually hang them at lights out, and remove them when the lights come on. 2-3 days usually does it. i put them in zip-locks, and keep them sometimes for months. you def. don't want to leave them in your grow area for long...

That's how I intend to use them. Where in the room do you hang them ie., how close to the plants?

Ok. Thanks. They say they cover 900-1500 cubic feet. Do you double up on them to get them to work faster?

I use mine the same way as Silky.. Pull it out at night and zip lock it during the day. My room is not as big as 1000 sq ft, so I only need one, and really don't have any special place to put it. I hang em, put them on the floor, set them between the plants, whatever is convenient. A few days and your problem will be solved.

I put them around my plants. Hang one right at canopy level and put one or two at pot level. 2-3 nights (lights off) with ALL vantalation turned off and every pest is dead.

Thanks for the input polo the don. I was wondering if anybody used them close to their plants. Sounds like you use several. How large of a space do you use them in?

Growers should use caution when dealing with NPS because of its toxicity to humans and animals. You shouldn't use "No-Pest Strips" and other products containing Dichlorvos on flowering plants because of its chance of leaving residual amounts of the active ingredient on your plants. Dichlorvos (The active chemical in No-Pest Strips) is considered a carcinogen and if used with your plants, it should only be used in the vegetation cycle and plants rinsed with water before flowering so you dont have a chance of leaving chemical residue on your harvest if possible. The active chemical (Dichlorvos) can be rinsed off and breaks-down in water but is also a dangerous insecticide and should NOT be used in living areas where people have a chance to inhale the chemical. (People growing in their homes with children, pets etc.

I say avoid at all costs, better to have 1-2 bugs than you dick drop off years later, when it means more than it does now ...? stick to Neem Oil!

I hang them at plant level if needed, I tie a string to the hook on the strip so they are just below the tops of the plants and have a small clip fan on low setting blowing on the strip. This works well. 3 days usually does the trick. If I bring any plants into mygrow room I put them up as a ppreventive measure just in case the gifted plant had any unseen problems

As the above poster mentioned, the strips can be harmful, but when used properly they are safe. Never be in the same room for more than 15 minutes when using them. I find I get light headed after an hour. Be safe and they work great. Don't chew on them, don't lick them and don't use it as deodorant.

i have one, pulled it out the other day for some flies. just sat it on top of my rez for about 4 hours, came back and the flies were all dead..

pretty gruesome shit actually and i try not to use it if i dont have to. i have neem oil as well for infestations such as mites and aphids and only really use the pest strip for flying insects like house flies and gnats.

AlphaPhase: I was very interested about using a fan to lightly disperse them so that they could be used more quickly and effectively.

RetiredMatthebrute: It's good to hear that they work so quickly for you. I hope to get the same fast results.

Vostok: Thanks for the warning. I am familiar with the risks involved with high exposure. I feel like growers should read through the many studies on dichlorvos and make an informed decision. I feel like very limited use as discussed here is very safe use of the strips seeing as the half-life of dichlorvos is so short. I am not in flower either. As for my dick falling off...I don't have one so, hopefully I should be good. Now maybe if I sprung one I wouldn't have need for a boyfriend anymore :-)

I am merely pointing out that if you have a clean grow then you will have very few contaminants, bugs can be expected this time of year for this reason I recommend keeping the grow area as clean as kitchen safe, so growers will note any sudden change in plant behavior, and correct it fast, then again I'm always bleating on about Neem Oil! ...lol

They dissipate fast light and moisture break them down faster so hanging at night will help. hanging them on a fan to blow the chems around works well although they wont last as long that way. You might get a week out of them on a fan. thats long enough for thrips. just dont chew on them or sleep in the same room and you will be fine.

Dr. Pecker: spinosad would be my go to for thrips for sure. It works great. But I am doing a very large several screen scrog and I doubt I could get good enough spray coverage without and atomizer, which I don't have. Smaller grows, I would always go spinosad first.

Vostok: thanks again. I do keep my room very clean. As clean as I can, but summer is tough and after a bout with cyclamen mites, I am using the pest strips as a cure/preventive knockout before the flip. I couldn't spay neem for the reasons above...however, I have had good results with using it as a systemic. The issue is that I am growing beneficial bugs more than i am a plant or a soil, if you follow my organic talk. I am hesitant to disturb my micro-universe with neem drenches. Any experience on using it in a very 'alive' medium?
