I'm using rockwool right now, yeah. You could use hydroton in the netpots. I don't know about lava rock, etc. but I assume that any medium you see fitting in the netpots would work. I think the advantage of rockwool in the bloombox is the stability this provides the plant once it is fully rooted in the 3" cube. With big plants and hydroton, if you lifted the lid, I could see the plant shifting amongst the hydroton, which seems like it would be bad. Obviously any movement of the entire plant isn't good (stress) but it's somewhat necessary to get a look at the root systems later in flowering.

It went great! I harvested last week. I have been lazy on the final trim. I will get the harvest weight early next week.

why couldn't you veg for 24 hrs? heat?

Here are some things off the top of my head

Pros of the box:

-Convenient
-RELATIVELY stealthy. IE it doesn't smell too much and if you don't tell or show anyone they will never know its there. Had my parents over today for thanksgiving in a small apartment, no problems.
-If you know what you're doing, it's more or less plug and play
-Good tech support, and they will ship you out stuff if it needs to be replaced

Cons:

Noisy
Problems that come with any DWC
Light leaks
Short growing space
Res isn't light-tight
Can't do 24 hr veg
Dimensions are large


Keep an eye on my journal, I haven't been updating a lot lately, but I'm closing in on harvest soon and I will try to write a more comprehensive critique of the box.

Yo, sorry I've been really slow to respond. BCNL makes a great product, but there are some considerations for sure. If you live in an apartment, and have a way to get one of these inside, it's a pretty easy and effective way to grow. With that said for the same price (actually a lot, lot less) you could go buy a grow tent that would fit in your bedroom, a carbon filter, a 1000w lamp / ballast, some simple GH waterfarms or hempy buckets, etc. etc. etc. I had the cash to buy one of these and I don't regret doing so.

Right now I'm growing some of Barney's Pineapple Chunk. It's a little too tall for the box, so my ladies are all bent over up by the glass and stuff. What you need for these is something nice and short, preferably trending towards a single-cola configuration. I'm going to do another PC grow, and then switch over to some LSD (Skunk #1 X Mazaar) which should be between 50-60cm. In the future I would look towards strains like bubblegum, Purple Kush, Master Kush, etc.

I dont know ANYTHING bout the BCNL ??? The Trinity is a BEAST,,,,but ITS NOT EVERYTHING THEY SAY!!!! you can hear it, sounds like the bathroom fan!! So if your alone in an apartment like I am it's cool, I just unplug it before anyone comes in! 8 weeks into flowering I had 4 people in my place ( once a yr) checking fire extinguisher,,, NUTHING THEY LEFT and I knew it waz worth EVERY CENT,,,,
