If you go to Woodsman's Scroggers Unite page....there's a huge string on what makes best screen. I used chickenwire but am told it's hard to get the plants out of at harvest. I used chickenwire so that I didn't have to build a frame for string which seems to be what most scroggers here...
I use Smartpots and I think it's really hard to overwater...they are made of breathable cloth and the water seeps out...I think the roots get more air.
I guess that could happen...but I wouldn't worry about it too much. The plugs have a little stretch and...since they are always moist...don't seem to break apart.

I am just completing my first scrog now...I have 3 plants under a 3'x3' roughly screen. They are in 5 gallon smart pots with the screen bent in a dish shape 10-12 inches from the soil. I think fimming and late topping helped...you're LSTing from the git go - that's the whole point. Indicas seem...

Welcome to SCROG! I'm just finishing up my first SCROG grow now. I think it's going to make a huge difference in my yields from the non-SCROG grows. I have learned a few lessons along the way though. First and foremost....take some time to plan where you're pulling the branches to. I ran out...
so...I'm doing my first scrog now. I suggest you do a search for the 2 scrog threads on this site..one was started by Woodsman. Also, there are some great videos on you tube. I probably learned the most from the videos cause they actually show you how to do it. You aren't weaving the tops...
I wouldn't trip on it too much. Just stop spraying with soap and change your nutes. Outdoor plants have a way of recovering and coming back even better than before.
Good Luck

I dunno...it does get tricky when you put a seedling in a large container of soil. It will take forever to dry out if you water until run off....I typically water with like a pint water bottle once a day - everyday - until my plants start to grow into the pot. Then I gradually increase it...
