no, im saying the initial lumen output of a cfl reduces more drasticlly over time. cfls u have to keep 1-2" from the plants so u have to move the everyday. and with the amount of cfls it takes to get the job done u end up using the same amount of watts as a hid system. plus ur gonna need to...

cfls do not last that long and lose lots of light intensity with age, in the long run they are more expensive then a hid unit and more hassle. but u can grow with them and grow well.

i think a 150 would suit u well, very economical and gets the job done, easy to find as well.

ive seen 4 plants all grown under a 250 with acceptable results, if u want to be economical and are only growing for personal use u really dont 400-1000w in my opinion.

the question is so vague it has to many answers, more info on ur setup could help us figure out what u need.

a 150w can grow 2-3 plants and can keep even the biggest smoker sufficiently stoned until his next crop comes around. i used to use a 400 till i was smart enough to realize a 150 was all i needed.

70w hps to 1000w hps the quality can be the same.
