  • ok change of plans, i have no longer been able to get a light so now i am growing straight from nature, set it outside for light and put it in my closet for darkness. i have seeds but like u said they are bag seeds so i don't know how well they will work or even if they will be male or female. i now have put thim in the little pod things that are made out of string so they can start to root and once they get about six inches then i will put them into an actual pot. like i said i don't have alot of money so i'm doing this the best way i can. i have the pots in the laundry room so when people throw away their trash, if they have anything organic they put it in the pots so it can get some type of nutrients in it... I.E. eggshells, bananna peels, orange peels, and apples. does that sound about right?
I was also wondering if you have obtained seeds already? Alot of people on here will talk down to/about growing from bagseed. I, however, feel that this is an important step for beginners. It gives you a little taste of what growing is all about. The average person has no idea how much work growing the finest MJ really takes. Of course, you probably wont grow the finest MJ with bagseed. You will find ALOT of hermie traits in seeds obtained from Regs/Mids. The genetics in these seeds are unstable, you could grow 3 plants all with totally different traits, even if the seeds all come out of the same bag or even the same bud. Seeds with stable and desirable genetics are easily obtained on the internet. They can be pricy, but may be worth it if you want to dive right in with some decent seeds.
Ok, first, you just need to make sure that the plant(s) will have COMPLETE darkness when they go into flowering stage. If their dark period is interupted regularly, your plants will not bud. So, if your going to grow on a shelf, make certain that you can provide this total darkness for 12 hours. You should also get some black&white poly or mylar at a garden shop. Both are more reflective and more durable than tin foil. Also, when I think shelf, I think "small." Now, this may not be the case at all but remember, average sized plants are 24"-36" tall, figure on leaving 12"-18" of space between the light and the tops of the plants and another foot or so for your light/reflector.
i am growing in my room on a shelf by the wall. possibly have 400W HPS light coming my way and i'm growing in a pot with soil and putting tin-foil up.
Ok so, if you'd like to tell me what, if anything, you have for equipment, lights, anything that you have. If you havent even gotten stuff yet, you jus need to tell me what you want to do, ie soil or hydro? HID or Fluorscent lights? what size room? anything you can think of. If you have money to spend then hydro with HID lighting is the way to go. If not, soil and fluorescent lighting is cheapest. Its a good light system, that will cost money. Hydro systems are VERY expensive to buy but can be made for cheap, mine is less than $100. Try HydroWholesale.com, look at the lighting kits, you can get a 1000w MH/HPS with a reflector for under $200. Now, I can also show you how to grow in soil with Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL's) for around $100 with everything you need but the seeds/clones. Anyway, do some research and hit me back, I will be glad to help you out in any way.
