Its just not a good idea to prune them once they start flowering. They waste energy trying to repair themselves=(smaller buds) and you wont have as many nodes and bud sites because they wont have enough time to grow back before they stop growing=(less buds) Few small buds = unhappy grower

Do you know you have poison ivy growing right next to your plants? If its not its a damn close look alike. be careful.
