Bob, Yes, you want the air pump either above the water level or add an anti-siphoning valve.

I've used Botanicare Pro Grow & Bloom, along with Cal-Mag with excellent results. It's really stable with my tap water and the ph is also stable.

You'll be able to maintain the ph & ppm via what you're describing.

I bought some Styrofoam @ Lowes that's designed to help deaden sound. It goes behind the dry wall. I covered my door in the bedroom where I grow and it really helped.
