  • Oh yea, did you buy an extra fountain pump with a 4' lenght of 1/2" hose to pump out the water in the SH tub and to pump the water back in from the new nute water mixed tub?

It works great. Plus it's so easy! It works with my 5 gal buckets too.
OK, I change my tub/bucket water every 7 days and I believe that's one of many keys to a healthy grow. 70 degree water temps are not too high, but above 80 is, so you're OK I believe.

With the SH tub-lid, I just turned mine about 15 to 20% and that gave me enough room to get my pH/ppm meter in and enough room to add water. Oh yea, I never gave my plants straight nutes. I always mixed it with water 1st.

If you're at or over a week on the "1st week schedule", I'd change out to week #2 (15ml/per gal). Do you have an extra tub to "mix" in? If so, mix 7 gallons worth. That way you have an extra gallon available to top off with. Once that gallon is gone, just feed straight water until day 7 of the week. Repeat this process through out your grow & you should stay within the PPM needed.

Sounds like you have a great area to grow with 15' ceiling/roof! Sounds like your lights are too close and moving them will help. The lights are on 24/0 and the plants need to stay around 75 degrees for the 24hrs. Put a thermometer on the lid of the tank and judge your temp from that.

If you have the ceiling room available, which you do, I don't see why you can't grow them to 36", but remember that they will double in size once you go to flowering. Mine went from 24" to 43" in 3 weeks of flowering and I don't have the room, so I'm bending.

    1. Change tub/tank water every 7 days
    2. always mix nutes with water prior to adding to tank.
    3. Daily tank top-offs: use water mixed nutes or plain water.
    4. keep your lights high enough to keep the plants cool(75-80)
    5. keep fresh air circulating into your grow area.
I had that last message sitting on the computer for a few hours and just hit submit.
Anyway, I lowered them about 5 or so inches to about 14 inches give or take. I think they were getting dry and were about to curl. Better be safe than sorry. I am worried about the water though. It's about 70 degrees and the roots are growing but they drank about 1/4 gallon in the last 24 hours. Maybe my nutes were too strong ? I hate not being able to tell unless I get a PPM meter. I guess the only way to be sure would be to flush. When they drank that 1/2 gallon a few days ago I added straight nuted solution. I'm thinking a flush may be in order. I'm beat and don't feel like messing with it.

How exactly do you lay the 'lid' of the BP system so as to not damage the roots ? It seems like it would have to be suspended somehow. This may be difficult, and it's not the cleanest area, but not dirty by any means. I just put epoxy down on the floor.
Gotcha. I just purchased a small floating thermometer but I stuck my hand in there this morning and it was cool.
I think I may have my light too close, the leaves are starting to look dry but still green. It's about 8 inches away... I think I'm going to drop the tank about 4 inches just to be on the safe side.
Well, I also noticed that they all have string like roots well into the water.

Here's another thing I was going to ask you. How long do you leave the 1st nute tank in there ? I had just plain water for a few days, and then added a couple tsp's of Botanicare stuff, then the full monty, so they've been in the tank with the same water for over a week. I don't have a ppm meter and am using PH strips and everything seems fine. I may do a flush within the next couple of days just to be on the safe side, whatcha think ??

Yes, I'm veggin' with a 400w HPS. The roof of the area that it's growing in is about 15 feet or so, it's about 1000+ sq ft area, all exposed on top. When the heat escapes the many gaps in the growing area, it just goes up... and it's on concrete so it will be fairly cool in the summer. I'm not worried about heat then, just smell really.

And as far as getting them tall, I'm going to try and go no more than 36 inches if I can help it. Again, this is just for my personal stuff, so I'm not looking for severe quantity just quality... but of course I want to get the most out of my grow.
