DIY Modular LED-Light

Correction :

Difference is not just 2-2.5 °C ....
At calculations fans are set at their typical operational voltage ..48 V ...
In real life measurements ,I had them running at 39 V ..
So real difference should be couple degrees more ...
3-5 °C ...(lower ,than calculated... )
Wow...

That's quite a "deviation" ,from theoritical calculations ....

But still ...I measure led case/mcpcb (where they "meet ") to be 16-17° C above ambient ....
...
That means that Tj is ~18-20°C ,above ambient ?
If Ambient temp is i.e 20° C ,then Tj is ~40°C ...
???
Is that possible to be happening with that box-fan-heatsink-mcpcb design ?

..?

A) Since the fans are placed side by side ,their air-flow is multiplied by two ...

So total air -free- flow is 72,52 CFM .
theorie... in realty we get about 80-90% of them.

Reds : 4 x 2.35 x 0.7 = 6.58 Watts at 700mA
WW : 8 x 3.4 x 0.7 =19.04 Watts at 700 mA

Through efficiency ..
At average 65% is heat ..( Rough estimation ) ..say for both leds ( reds T3 bin 355-400 mW output ) ( WW lowest bin ...Say 350 mW output ? )
i see at my model less then 30% efficiency.
best way here is to calculed without this efficiency, gives also some safety.

now we have to go for the pcb, about 1-1.5°K/W...(Rough estimation over pcb, glue or grease)..
gives about 15-20°K
.. and here is your mistake....

the whole calculation of a heatsink or junktion temp is as good as your parameter and you never get them all and in the right manner. so calculate for the worst then it can only be better.

hi Guod,

here is the first Prototyp of the Farred booster. Looks a bit shitty I know, but the next three will be nicer, I swear!!!
Perfomance of the Booster is better then my calculation.
10 minutes at 0.4A(2.7W), witout additional Cooling, the thermo-couple says 43°C, and each Booster will be good for 5.7 Watt.

i´am waiting for some Parts to get the PWM-Processor ready. here is a pic where i am.
after checking the wireing I put all 4 ch. in one box.

Some impressionen from the new light, guod and I developed two months ago.

this module starts at 24W in veg. and goes up to 45W in flower-mode.

these pics are from day 30, counting from fully developed cotyledons, </Sativa dominant AF Strain; 100% organic/>

full view of the plant to see the size and both grow spectra

- lightspectrum in veg mode.
full-veg.jpg

- lightspectrum in full flower mode.

we can also switch the light to about 5600K, what makes work on plants much easier.

Very cool grow my friend. I'd appreciate you sharing more about your setup.... Btw, awesome looking mutant leaves.

the light is top secret...
but i will give you a hint...

circuit_diagram.jpg

really, we need some more tests,
heatsink and fan is not clear at the moment.
thinking about a stepper switch instead of a poti to get the same spectrum every time,
and way more things that have to be cleared.

...and most exciting, is our plan to sell a modular version of this product (JABO-GD*), allowing for the ultimate growing experience.

thanks hilo,
talking about the setup, it´s nothing special here, an unused bathroom, soil, water and 20 hours of light. 100% organic grow style. and i am a guy how like the Idea behind "demeter"

I started this test with 24 watts of the vegetative spectrum for 10 days.
after that i go up to 35W. the spectrum changed also to more red and less blue.
at day 31 I set the light to the 45W flowering spectrum. this is also the maximum light the panel can give. blue is now on the the lowest level. lets see what happend.
the plant needs 2 days to adapt to this spectrum but see for yourself.

plant under this spectrum
