Today I found small, black larvae in my DWC roots! They are about a millimeter long long. I removed the ones I could see by hand. What are they, where did they come from, and how do i kill them. When I remove one and place it on a dish it crawls similar to a catarpillar. These were in my roots, but they were not visible one day ago when I checked the roots? I never see any flies in my room, what are they?

So no one on the all mighty RIU that grows hydro has ever ran into pest in the form of larva in the roots? wow

hey there kushkilla you neet to find something with BT . you have fungus gnats larvea and try looking up BT WORM KILLER on the internet ...... dilute it and add it to the tank.
the y complete there life cycle in like 10 days ......fungus gnats lay thousands of eggs....
it will for sure stunt growth and flower.

corbat they do look similar to that, but there no house flies in my grow room. I've never heard of HF maggots in a hydro grow. Ive been doing some research and I do believe they may be fungus gnats. I do a good root inspection everytime im in my grow room ( 4-5 times/week) and today it was like they just popped out of no where! Im considering making a mild dilution of neem and water for a root soak. Any experiance with this?

I've never heard of using Neem Oil as a root drench. It's a fungicide, and pesticide. What you need is a larvacide, and BT is the one. It's a beneficial bacteria called bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, also called BTi. That's the main ingredient in Gnatrol.

I used Gnatrol for a few res changes and it killed my mini infestation. I also used the sticky yellow traps for the adults..

how should u wash ur used hydroton to reuse it??

hydroton clay expanded....... i would cook it it hot water or something like that to kill germs bacteria
