Iso \

"Polishing" won't change the color really, iso generally produces a red more amber extract than butane. Some plants also produce red wax. But really you don't want red oil. Thc is clear white and progressively turns gold then amber.....

In that link i'm specifically referring to "Alcohol/Hexane wash:" and the "Hexane/Saline water wash:".

I understand that. I perform a etoh and hexane saline wash when going for best quality/visual appeal...to show off.. I can get nearly clear chunks of shatter. Extracting that way won't degrade your cannabinoids or pull the red waxes I mentioned or red polar compounds..

I'm not sure I understand the question. The etoh wash serves to remove all non polar compounds wax etc the hexane in the saline/hexane wash removes the polar compounds(a lot are red) the saline serves to remove the chlorophyll...... this is why a iso extract is generally more red and a non polar wash is generally yellow.

That makes sense. Cause that's usually how mine is. But it sucks when I gather it with a razor because it makes it darker which kinda sucks but it isn't to important I suppose..

By the way, I tasted the red ISO and it came out pretty good. I can't really tell if it lost potency because I haven't done the 2nd part of the extract yet but it certainly still tastes good and gets the job done well. That being said, I don't think I would do it again unless I screwed up the wash lol.

It won't always be red. But in general iso will pull a more red extract ,butane yellow...a lot if polar compounds are red (when I see people make butter for instance, when they pour the water out a lot if the time its red on bottom) iso isn't as selective for thc and not all the compounds in the plant are clear... this is also why some plants never produce clear trichome heads, some plants start out with red trichs that turn opaque when done.....

i do know that some strains produce a more red/amber oil..but I have only gotten that color when I used to use the sun to evaporate/purge. ive never heard of iso being the cause of pulling red extracts

So I thought I'd comment that I posted that step by step on my process on my thread. I know we all have our methods just thought I'd share mine, and the results. I'm about the scrape the second wash evap from that run right now.

I wish there were stickies about this, I think Oakleys probably should have his sticked too. Maybe its for legal reasons? By the way Thunder, you should put some of your pictures here because they came out great!

Yea when thundercat finishes up I would nominate his as well... I just thing collectively we could put up a couple stickies. Some of the wax makers can put how to properly use a vac and purge and a good bho tutorial. And there should be a iso as well, I see people putting threads in the growing section and stuff not having a clue talking about a 3 min iso wash or a month long qwet.....anyway just my thoughts.....

Theres probably no active mod,

edit: I just realized sunni is a mod so you can message sunni and ask to sticky what you think should be a sticky
Why aren't there any stickies in the concentrate section? I mean besides the ice wax or whatever it is

@qwizo now I'm confuse lol. The processes I was referring to would remove the red and green color/compounds from the extract. No?

@war in my experience Even if you screw up bad, you can still medicate with the oil. I've burned ISO before when not paying attention. It's hell on your lungs but still medicated effectively. Either it's yellow, gold, green, red or black it will still contain THC but the more heat you purge with the less it tastes like the plant.

Yes the process will remove all color except the color of the cannabinoids extracted .. when you suggested the hexane/saline wash they were wanting to end up with a red oil. You can end up with a red oil with this process depending on degredation and amounts of red or darker terpenes...but a lot of the polar compounds are red so with the herb used to produce red in a hexane/saline wash , it would be redder in a non polar wash. From my experience and pictures I've seen its definitely the case

.....I say this often, thc is an aromatic monoterpene anything that affects flavor effects potency as well,(some terps boil at that same temp range and you can think of them as going hand in hand)

Ah they wanted it to be red, my mistake I thought we were trying to get it out.

I would agree with your final quote. However the variance can be huge. For example when making tincture, eatable or RSO you apply heat in excess of 150f usually more like 212f. At these temps you lose several terps and more but you are still able to maintain a high quality product. I have been able to increase the thc% 2-3% over the flower results. on eatables when making oils even with access heat.
