UVA/UVB the real deal. A must read topic for all growers.

Nothing to worry about as long as you are not looking at it closer than 8 inches or near it with your skin closer to it than that then it is no more than being outside on a sunny day.

ps...I have a uvb meter so not just blowing smoke about such a serious matter....
hey kite, have you taken any recent readings of UVb lvls (outdoors) in your area? wondering if UVb lvls are still normal range or rising..

if this is true.. then some1 should be doing a side by side.. 2 tents.. 1 uvb 1 none.. and then show us in lab results.. I don't wana hear oo ya its more potent.. cause u smoked it .. I wana see this on paper.. because big growers and smart people like sam skunkman have done this n noticed nothing different.. and the results ive read about uvb and shit has all been threw growing SEED .. all seeds are going to be different usually anyways.. soooo.. if some1 does this with clones.. and has lab results to back it up.. show it .. kuz I don't think it matters.. ive been growing for a while and genetics an environment are everything!!!

Why don't you run these tests? Instead of coming here whining why no one has done side-by-side grows with lab tests on UVB results..

And speaking of "labs"-- what exactly should they be looking for: altered cannabinoid profiles? overall trichome count? terpene variations? specific cannabis genetics/strains/phenotypes that react better to ultra violet b? or which levels of UVB intensity used? how about exposure times? --And can you refer those interested parties to a lab that is (solely studying the effects of UVB exposure regarding cannabis' enzymatic processes prior to cannabinoid/trich formation??)

--Only place I've heard of such a lab that is remotely touching the subject is in Israel..

"because big growers and smart people like sam skunkman have done this n noticed nothing different.." --That really doesn't mean squat in academic terms, but hey, feel free to believe in whatever you want :)

You demand answers? Go do some REAL research on your own, instead of-- "But so & so said UVB doesn't work, so it must be 100% factual.." /facepalm
If only science was that easy~

Everyone has opinions (and are free to share them) but to dismiss UVB as just another pseudo mumbo-jumbo without actually doing any real research yourself, is just absurd. Besides, your input doesn't contribute much in-regards to UVB in general~

ok ...I have posted this before and it changed nothing as people's minds are always already made up to the point that they will refute it so this is the last time I will bother...I really dont care if you accept it or not...I just know uvb is now a permanent part of my grows

clones from same mother plant

non uvb results

uvb results

only difference in environments was presence or absence of uvb...grown in this

No these are not the aforementioned clones as I no longer have pics of those grows...this is just to show the room and that it is completely sealed and controlled
and to those who might actually like to know they were given 300-400 uw/cm2 UVB

And fuck RATMAN SAM!! that fuck works for the DEA and is only about $$$ and himself...again FUCK SAM RATMAN

Now I am done as I tire of backing up what I say...If I do not know I do not say...So when I say something it is real godfuckingdamnit

OK OK, never doubted you a minute. (pulls coat over head and ducks).

You're getting as grumpy as me, ya old pHart! Then again, RIU just brings out the best in us gray hairs, eh. https://www.rollitup.org/advanced-marijuana-cultivation/151706-uncle-bens-topping-technique-get-235.html

wow im stunned that anyone can refute uvb. . i will be using your experiment as a source whenever someone has somethign negative to say about uvb:

Hi Kite / fellow UVA/UVB peeps....I have also heard good things about these bulbs from a buddy who uses the 4' T8 tubes. I went out and bought 3 of the smaller 26W CFL 10.0 UVB bulbs and hung them around my canopy top the last couple weeks of flower. I did start to notice increase in trichs but hard to say if it was due to the bulbs as I have never grown this strain before. I was worried these little bulbs would not be effective. I have a small closet grow so figured 3 would help...I am in a 2'x4' closet with a 400 HPS. Thought I would get your take on those smaller CfL type, I assumed they would be similar to a normal CFL and need to be placed closer and not have a lot of penetration?

They do not provide enough UVB intensity to enable the synthase manipulation we are seeking. I have not witnessed increased resin production but rather cannabinoid ratio manipulation favoring psychoactivity. See it requires 150-400 uw/cm2 to effect causation and testing several different brands cfls the highest was around 50 uw/cm2. Not putting you down in any way just sharing knowledge. Look into Arcadia t5 ho fluorescent 12% UVB tubes for affordable UVB lamp sources. UVB lamps are costly and a lil difficult to obtain quality lasting powerful sources as it requires a different glass formulation which is costly and more difficult to manufacture. The added light will help anyways until you can obtain adequate sources.

haha.. some1 took it a little to far? lol im just saying ive been growing for a while.. and UVA/UVB hasn't really played a big part in it . and ive had amazing results .. and the other iuno million people out there that grow.. aren't using them either.! if it was actually working and making it more potent or changing the cannabinoid profile .. ud be seeing a lot more info on the net about how it actually works.. and if that was the case. some grow company out there would be developing some bulbs to have higher amounts of whatever they need to have to make bud stronger or whatever !!! not trying to start an argument. just giving my opinion on the matter. I haven't cared enough to do this Side by Side.. id rather do ones that actually matter.. like nutrients ..

so a 3% increase verified by a real lab test in thc content is not worthy of the test I already did? You are a joke...nutrients affect potency least of all elements of the grow but your ignorance has you ignoring REAL substantiated evidence that a certain spectrum of light alone by itself increase psychoactive content is not important to you? Well keep smoking your crap as any real weed I grow would stop your one cell brain, and it is also evident that you never even read the post or the lab results links as you would not have said such stupidity...

im sorry but that isnt the best litmus test for what does and does not work for increasing thc. there was a time when it was "common knowledge" that hangign the plant upside down after harvest moved thc from the stem into the bud.

heres a good source indicating uvb will in fact increase thc:

Been there, tried that, Did the side by side thing with a few different strains and have since moved on to other trials. Plant manipulation will give you better results and costs nothing but time. Give it a try, that's the only way to know for sure. Good Luck

Anyone stop to think that the additional light from the uvb bulbs adds to the amount of trichomes due to added growth? My theory is that the trichomes are there to trap heat to keep the internal temperature at an optimum level for embryo growth. I heard a number of people claim that plants at higher altitudes grow more trichomes. Isn't the ambient air temperature also colder as well as the water?. I've noticed that during times of excessive heat the amount of trichomes goes down. When the water is kept colder and the air below 80 degrees Fahrenheit the trichomes explode out of the plant and cover it, even the edges of the fan leaves. The guys pictures in the beginning of this post is what plants look like under hps anyway if grown right. Another trick iv'e learned is that is you give your plants 50 degree water for 3 days and 48 hours of darkness the amount of trichomes increases significantly right before harvest. So how does UVB directly contribute to trichome production if the most rapid trichome development is during that dark period in the cold water? Anyone got any input on this theory?

No increase in light amount for UVB testing. Just different type of bulb is UVB bulb in place of blue actinic. Argue it all you want. I proved it so do whatever you like but I know it's working for me and the data proves it.

I ve been using a sun pulse 10 k for last two weeks of grow, for a while now, I just replace one of my two 400watters with it and then switch it back and fourth every couple of days. Last grow I got lazy and didnt. Yield was a lot bigger, up from 17 oz average, to 24 oz, but seemed not as sticky. But I did use brand new bulbs so I guess it screws results up!
