The French Cannoli` Hash Thread

How long of a window do we have to use the fresh trim, given that it is refrigerated to stay fresh?

That is one nice thing about fresh frozen; while it does get freezerburn etc. I am not in a huge rush to process it as it stays the same (frozen; albiet with the chlorofil issue) until I have some time to spin, or usually until my IWE stash runs low.

I know all of us who grow tend to loathe intensified amounts of work at harvest time. (I try to trim all my flowers myself to maximize both trim yield and quality in addition to flower quality). Is the fresh extraction another chore to add to the list at harvest? I am looking to avoid piling more steps on top of my already labor intensive flower harvest. Do you trim the plants immediately (manicure fresh?), harvest whole and slow dry then manicure later, etc.? Danks for your time and knowledge Frenchy.
I am not a specialist on frozen trims but Nikka Ti who is, does not recommend to keep it more than a few weeks and it has to be ONLY sugar trims, if I remember well.
I trim my plants fresh but I grow only for my personal needs

Mr. Cannoli, where in your travels do you feel hashish has been studied the greatest it possibly could? With the different legalities of cannabis throughout the world how far do you believe we the human race are in grasping all the knowledge we can get and informing ourselves about hashish and all it's making?

Ran another batch last nite frenchy....I sifted a couple grams of resin and pressed n rolled for 20-30 mins like before...let it hang out for a bit the gave it another round of pressing and heating...it seems to be bttr w more flavor and high....also I really enjoy the whole experience...ill nvr forget where I learned at and I can see myself only getting bttr at it...these small batchhes seem to b the way to go for quality...I've nvr known hash til now and I've been smoking weed my whole life..it really is a treat.

Welcome to the world of pure cannabis resin. I still smoke flowers but totally prefer to do the extra work on my trim and get the fiber free smoking pleasure. Others really enjoy the flowers and the hash is for me and the inner circle. What no more IWE? Time to spin!

Where can I check that?
THCA coverts to THC and CBDA to CBD via decarboxylation. When THC degrades, it becomes CBN, not CBD. This is very important as many growers think they can up the CBD content via over-ripening or oxidation. While this might have benefits on terpenoids and such, it does not cause THC to convert to CBD. The THC degrades to CBN and thus loses potency.

I can't find a great reference from a primary source, but I know there are papers out there. Maybe another weednerd can step up and point us to better. Here is what I did find to back it up...

http://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/data-and-analysis/bulletin/bulletin_1997-01-01_1_page008.html

If you search for "THC to CBN" on Google you will see many many secondary sources.

Pretty pictures of the chemical process:

Thc does not become cbds. Through decarboxilation. They are two completely different chemical compounds . There are lots of scientific articles on this. As well as the process.
I stand corrected, THCA and CBDA will transform in CBN through an overdone decarboxylation process or just time degradation. Thanks for the info.

Most certainly Afghanistan and the Himalayas, the birth place of the plant and control of the silk road. The birth of Charas and the oldest hashish culture.
I do not know how much we have still to learn but the fact is that if we do not study hundreds of thousand of years of tradition we are missing big time.

You will get better at it my friend there is no doubt in my mind because you seems to really enjoy the experience and you have the love. What else would you need but good genetics.
it is very rewarding to share what I learned, awesome feeling. So thank you too

Frenchy,

Dry freezer extraction is simply collecting trichomes when the bud is dry and frozen in a frozen environment. It's easy if you live in the land of ice and snow like I do, or if you have a walk-in freezer which of course most do not. Fresh Headies or Bubbleman sells a box screen set you can use in the freezer at home. Freeze everything, the bud and the screens. Open the freezer and break up a frozen bud or resin trim over the top screen. It'll be very brittle and the trichs will lose their stickiness. Close the freezer door and let cool down before you do this again. After you've done this gently there will be many trichomes left on the plant material which you can run through the bubble bags at a later time to make water bubble hash. Why do I do this? Because I find freezer extracted hash to be very tasty and pure and preserves the prime terps being my first run or sift of bud which is very potent with no terps lost in water, but you don't get as much with other methods if you do it right and be gentle. Any trichs I don't pick up frozen and dry, I'll pick up by running through the washer. Sometimes I'll do a whole crop this way. Making hash out of it all. Dry and frozen freezer hash first and then ice wax. Freezer extracted hash can then be hand worked using your methods.

I can't wait to move north (One more hot summer to go). A walk in is too much E bill for my fam. If anyone's in the restaurant biz tho...

Now after reading here there can be a third step of pressing and decarbing some of what is yielded by phases one and two? Sounds like your in hash heaven already, theres always another level to try. Glad I found this thread

Thanks that's what I thought, sifting in a walk in fridge is so perfect. Freezing your screens on the other hand, I would think twice about it and experiment without doing it.

Looks like it's going to be a great video. You mentioned you grow for yourself, got any favorites you keep in your garden for hash making?
