What happened to the skunk that was around in the early-mid 90's? The stuff that smelled like an actual skunk.

I havent smelled anything like that in years. I have seen several "skunk" strains and crosses but none actually smell like the animal. Its like skunk has just become a generic term to describe anything with a strong odor.

Anyone remember the skunk from the 90's? It might have been around before that but thats when I first started seeing it.

Are their any strains that have a legit skunk smell anymore?

Cannaventure 'road kill skunk' is pretty close as well. Hard to get beans though!

Ive heard rumors though that if you got a skunk 1 from flying dutchmen and crossed it with a sensi afghani you will eventually find the really smelly pheno ;)

I've notice here lately lots of people have been asking about,"skunky" well after most seed companies started going after big yielding plants the strain smell got more n more bland and sweet. The only way to bring back "skunky" is to breed her back....there's still alot of genetic material around.

This question is asked like once a month and the answer remains the same...

There is no where to get it. All sold skunks are not the old legit skunk. They are fruity, flowery smelling skunks not like we smoked in the late 70's - late 80's.

its still around, i know of a couple people growing right nasty super dank skunk here in CO, i've actually smoked it on more than a couple occaisions. they hold on to it super tight, though, but at least it still exists.

yea i agree i think it exsists but its just very hard to find, as one person said, its pretty much been bred out of exsistence

i thnk theres skunky phenos of alot of dif strains, its just hard to find. the two skunkiest smelling plants ive smelled in a long time were a mystery og clone i had last year and a blueberry my friend grew a while ago. it was also a clone from unknown source. i would realy like to find a super skunky indica dom plant, but it seems hard to find. the way seed bank searches are set up doesnt seem to help the prob lol.

oh almost forgot, i thnk the nuts/grow style (prob just the nutes) has a big influence on smell as well. the first time i grew that skunky og in hydro it reaked like skunk. the second time i grew it in organic soil mix, it smelled mostly like pine (a little skunky but just barely) they were both cloned off the same mother.

How does the buzz hold up to "modern" strains? I know 20+ years ago it was head and shoulders better than normal bud.

I grew og18 and it didn't come out like og at all. It was road kill skunk, or the closest to it I've had in a while. Maybe just a rare pheno being it was a freebie and I only had one?

Does not exist anymore, true sour/roadkill skunk is a lost strain.

I've been looking for 3 years for those genetics.

Undoubtedly true, but "normal" bud 20 years ago was probably fairly poor by today's uber-kush/medical/elite clone/dispensary standards. It used to be true in the USA years ago, but in England the term "skunk" is STILL used as slang for any potent weed.

Those who still think today's weed blows away everything from years ago may have trouble accepting this, but if you check the "tape" (ie cannabinoid analyses) the good modern skunks are super-potent, just as good as most of the "OGs".

EG: SCL labs tested out this sample of "Skunk #1" at over 20% THC just two weeks ago:

Last year this sample of "Skunk #1" from Green Acres tested out at a mind-warping 23.4% THC and 24.5% total cannabinoids:

Now, I can't say what these strains actually are, genetically, if they are "roadkill" skunk, or something else, but at least SOMEBODY is growing some ultra-potent stuff called "skunk #1" and I find it hard to believe that something this good has just dropped off the face of the earth.

They don't seem to have any in stock at the moment, but Green Acres is in Santa Cruz CA, and I suppose you could call them and ask them where they got this and/or what the genetic lineage of it is, if you really wanted to know.

Just saw a skunk special, think it was dna was too high to care right now. Secret sour dna is very skunky, sour ds as well to the guy above skunk sour does exist, just called secret sour...

Everytime I smoke this secret sour, a family of skunks that live in my area come and check out who the fuck smells so skunky, way too many times have I looked up and seen 4 plus skunks a few feet away from me... crazy ass shit....

lol seriously or are you trolling? its too damn hard to read someones tone online lmao.....You liked DNA's secret sour? I was thinking of trying their Cataract Kush, Lemon OG, or exodus kush, but i cant decide
