Rational behind people getting upset - profit Growers?

weed is not an artificially priced commodity. Its not boosted up by government handouts. or even the chicago exchange like grapefruit and pork bellys. If I could sell it cheaper I would so I could sell more faster. Some of us actually run the numbers. You cant sell it much cheaper and accounting for the MASSIVE risk break even.
You could consider the risk premium as a sort of back handed government subsidy. The risk of getting busted limits competition and rewards those people successful in dodging that risk with fat extra profits.

Weed is a pretty interesting economic case study which has been little analyzed. You can see exactly how an unregulated by government market economy actually works. You get all the bad and all the good. Rip offs, outright theft, organized criminal enterprises that rub out their competition, total caveat emptor up and down the line. We also have many diverse small businesses offering freedom and economic opportunity. And we also have a very complex market which truly reflects the supply-demand relationship.

One of the insults thats usually hurled is that cash croppers dont have love for the plant, and that the end product will suffer because of it. I think thats some kung fu buddhist bullshit. The plant wants a stable environment + nutrients + lights, beyond that it doesnt care who is growing it or for what purpose. One could easily argue that experienced growers whose livelihood depends on it are more likely to work on creating the best bud possible. As opposed to someone who just really loves weed and the marijuana culture/movement.
A cash cropper that does not worship his plant as a dumb, deaf idol god !? Blasphemy!

I think it is out of ignorance... there are Med Patients who can't pay their bills etc.. who COULD be doing better for themselves were they able to find someone to buy their overages....

There are people out of Work who are losing their homes who can/do return from the brink by growing 'for profit"...

as long as the ones that grow "for profit" are conscientious growers and don't short-cut the grow or add shit to the weed-- it is making good, safe cannabis more redily available to those who Need or want it...

Where else would they GET it? Hmm....?

Not everyone has access to a caregiver or lives in a Med state or even uses for JUST Med. Purposes....

I'd rather have people here learning to grow well and growing "for profit" than to have people limited to unknown CRAP that comes across the boarders from god knows where filled with god knows what... and supplying $$ to violent cartells...

If you are a grower or partake of weed yet think no one should profit from it-- you have some soul-searching ( and reading) to do.

I've seen some come in here boasting about the 500+ dollars they get for an ounce of average weed. The problem with cash cropping it is you pay no taxes on the high income you do make . I realize this isn't your fault , gov doesn't make it real easy to pay taxes on selling an illegal substance. With me it has nothing to do with the fact you are growing and selling weed and making a living at it, great for you. I pay a pretty good tax on my income because it's legit and I'm not a cash cropper. when your area goes medical not long after you can expect your profit to go down, way down. it won't be nearly as desirable to grow weed anymore unless it's only for personal use.

Those of us cc usually hold down another job. or at least a no show. otherwise we get busted.
smart ones pay taxes. At least something.

i dont know anyone who would evade taxes if given the oppertunity to pax full taxes on thier crop.

I think the biggest cost in growing cannabis is the huge risk involved. They can take your liberty and everything you've worked for. Anyone taking that risk deserves to be appropriately compensated.

Newbie to RIU here but I just wanted to add my thoughts on this...

In this world, we've all got to do what we got to do, regardless of how others may feel about it. It's called survival.
Heck, there have been one or two times in the past, I've had to shift one or two ozzies to help pay for the leccy or some emergency equipment etc. when things have gone bad. I don't like doing it because of how the "law" views it, i.e. the wrap sheet gets bigger, but sometimes it's gotta be done. Anyone that says they never have is either doing really well or is lying.

There are always going to be people selling what is in demand. Fact of the matter is, I'd rather get my purchased weed from someone that takes care of it, doesn't sprinkle it with crushed glass or other dodgy tactics just to increase weight.
Yes, it does happen. Was only a couple of years back weed was being sold around with crushed glass and all sorts on it. THEY are the people I have a problem with. They no nothing of a happy medium between good gear and profit. They only give a toss for the wrong kind of green; the kind with a famous people's face on it! They care not what they shove in the plant as long as it's got the weight; we all know this is true. It's these kinds of growers and sellers that give us all a bad name.

I know one or two growers that grow for percy but put out a few ozzies here and there, now and again to help pay for costs. So what? At least they're selling gear you can smoke without it tearing your lungs to bits.
They're not bothered about the cash unless in times of utter desperation, they grow for love and that's reflected in the quality of the weed you buy from people like that.

The next time one of these hypocrites that moan about percy sellers is outta smoke and they go and buy some compressed coriander peppered in sand and icing sugar from some street corner hustler, I hope they remember these words.

Not having a go at anyone here like. Just making a general point is all.

I saw that, and you are right - it sucks. But would you rather live in a state like I do where the risk of the grow is incredibly high? You can sell any level of quality for a good profit margin whether you are selling weight or not, but it is risky. I have people begging me for product weekly at $400-$450 an ounce (no taxes involved)....just can't supply any more customers with my little setup right now.

Yes, I would prefer living in a state where the risk is high.

For the simple reason the laws have always been based upon economics as opposed to morals...and therefore, I would relish the opportunity to put the state on trial.

A jury of 12 have no real consequences when ignoring the law, and are generally sympathetic to citizens growing cannabis to support oneself...particularly after they got fucked by the economy.

You are right that most people are more sympathetic than they have been in the past, but I don't think they are as okay with the cash cropping as you think. Having said that, if I got caught, I doubt the punishment would be stiff for an innocent looking green eyed woman with an obvious neurological disorder................and I would play it up.

Marijuana becomes legal in a few states, and suddenly the smokers from those areas claim the moral high ground. Most of them bought, grew or sold weed themselves, and I find them despicable hypocrites.
Does not the growers that supply your dispensaries grow for profit?
