Which is better hid or led?

Start with HPS. there is more help available for you when you are starting out and it is a lower up front cost. Once you get the hang of growing and want to start uping your game save up and get a Black Dog. My yields have stayed the same and quality is way better. Yes it is expensive, but I am growing in the middle of the summer in the hottest summer ever, so that has paid for itself in one grow. Add in the cost of changing bulbs every 6 months and i will be saving money. You can check out some of my pics to see LED yield

uve used MH the whole way thru too i used to like it better than hps till they came out with hps and the added blue spectrum. it almost doesnt matter (hps vs MH) but the the slight differences in spectrum make MH better for veg and HPS for flower and a combo of the 2 for even better results.

I have one tent that is MH, and the other is CMH, so the dual spectrum HPS pretty much...I see very little difference between vegging and flowering with any of them...but a huge difference between 300w of CFL and 400w of HiD

fuck that,hid's are better and make more sense than leds for flowering.
all the big growers who have tried leds always go back to hps for flowering.
you can still get pretty good results with leds,but hps lights will out perform leds.

i read and read and read post after post after post and made my decision not to waste my money on leds or they would be in the closet gathering dust like so many others before us.

So the pics of the finished buds with the Sour D and Ghost finished at 1.5 lbs, a few grams more than I do with HPS. I usually run about 9 plants per 4x4 area, that grow was the 9 Sour D and 2 little Ghost squished into the edge. Light retails for $2000. I called and they gave me a little price brake both times. I just looked up my electricity rates and I save just over 20 bucks a month running 12/12 compared to HPS. 2 years from now plus 4 bulb changes I am making free money. and i am growing during the hottest summer ever, so that is nice, I usually just try and keep mothers healthy for July and August.

cfl are flawed in design for growing as they create a bubble of light more small wattage CFL will do better than fewer larger wattage cfls.

CMH is a good bulb good specrum but not bright enough to warrant the switch from HPS or MH, i would like to play with a CMH but i dont kno 290000 lumens is a big difference from 40000 or 50000 i know lumens dont apply but in this cae the different of 20,000 lumens for flower i dont think i could do it.

i am very satisfied with my pg-180 led in my 1.5x2x3' tent. its is wonderful for my small area.
but i went from a 125w cfl.

like i said depends on the setup, but like your saying by the time you want to upgrade you will realize how useless your LEDs are for large grows. i know LED or flouro can match yeild wise but only under specific conditions.

so you save 20 bucks a month but it costs 1750 more than a 1000 w hps. add a 6 pack of hortilux bulbs you're in 700 bucks total. It would take like 5-6 years for it to be worth it. naww I'll stick with hid.

I would say LED is the best proven light source as it has many advantages, it requires less power and emits less heat and can work for long periods. They may be expensive but often gives good results once it is fixed.

Just like you can say that I can say that hps is the best tried and proven light source. It has many advantages.. You can grow more plants under hid. You can Yeild more under bid.. You definately pay a way cheaper up front cost to run and hps lights pay for itself from the first grow!

Of course if you got a 20000Watts operation you gotta go the cheap route, if you get busted after onlly a year and them cops take your 40000$ worth of LEDs ... who wants to go there ... but for small scale grow, LEDs all the way.

I dont understand how lot of people here cannot spend 2k on a decent setup yet claim to be growin so much weed with HIDs, ... where does all the money go, is 2000$ really all that much money for a grower?

I started with 2x400watts hps last year in September, if I wasnt smokin so much weed (thats why I grow...) and if I was to sell it instead, my whole new LED setup would be all paid for just from the previous grows and then some, all within a year and I didnt even know what I was doing.

so yeah if you are broke go with HIDs until you can afford the real deal

Why pay 2000 for a light that does the same as a 200 could do. Spend 2000 in a room with hid I don't think led can compare in any thing but low heAt..
