Which is better hid or led?

I'm a total LED fanboy, i admit it... but how couldn't i be, if i can be getting this out of only 56 Watts... and the best of it, if lifespan is as it's pormised by leds, i'm having even 10 years of this, not spending a single more penny on replacement of any kind. Just with 5 years i would be more than satisfied.. what can you say man.. really... i think that instead of arguing so much, we should all benefit from what this new tech is bringing up. i fucking love LEDs! Peace.
You're very persuasive. So much so I bought a LED today that I will use it in a side by side grow with HID. I got a used Procyon 100 LED. I'm looking for another. I plan to pair them against one 600w HID. One side of my 4 X 8 tent will have HID (MH+HPS), the other LED, and the middle should benefit from both lights. Sort of HID vs. HID + LED vs. LED. Maybe I'll post a journal, too. Then again, I'm a lazy fuck and that sounds too much like work. A journal might be embarrassing if I should have a crop failure. Growing is more like a hobby for me. It's fun, that's why I do it. Well that and a supply of good pot.

take her easy, supplement with cal mag on the led side especially if using RO water. personally I rock the supersoil and dont worry about a damn thing, but it seems to me like the feeding schedule with LEDs can be a pain in the butt with commercial nutes... good luck! glad we got you to try em out! If anything they will always be great side light in your garden...

HAHAA never intended to persuade anyone by the way... just sharing what i consider to be my knowledge on the subjet to contribute to the topic.

If you got interested, well i really really hope and wish, your adventure pays off. If they are any like the CREE XP-E i'm having here, have no doubt about it.

If your not pulling a journal, you could come here when you have results just to give some more data and results to this discussion, it seems the lack of complete journlas and proven results, is one the reasons that is keeping everyone so skeptical about it. That, plus the whole scaming heavy marketing we all already know about, is not helping either.

Cheers man, and wish you all the success in your experiments :)

PS: If you got your panel used, i think you asked the one you bought it from, if he was pleased with it's performance, or not?... did he mention something about being satisfied with it's performance?

Peace :peace:

I had thought about asking him, but figure he wouldn't be likely to tell me it was junk. He had 20 for sale. Hopefully he is a commercial grower upgrading his lights. Here's a copy from a retailer: Procyon 100 LED Grow Light Specifications: •Procyon will be discreetly delivered to your front door for a total of $659.95 •56 CREE* Xlamp high power LEDs (40 635nm, 16 450nm) •100W nominal LED power delivery •125W total power consumption •Integrated power supply; requires no "ballast" •Built in fan for cooling •Replaces 400W HID light, giving 75% power savings •Covers approximately 10 square feet •50,000+ hour LED life •Proudly made in the USA! •Measures 13.5" x 5" x 5" •Award winning! I've seen several people at RUI recommend the light. If I can replace 2 x 600w(actual draw w/ballasts is 1320w) with 4 x 125 is a 62% reduction. A/C use may drop also.

Congrats on your new light, the Procyon is a good choice in my opinion. Replacing a 400w HPS is pretty optimistic though; I think you've understood that it certainly won't be that good :)

I was planning to pair two together to replace 1 600w. I may cut the other 600w down to 400w, just to make it more equal.

Dont know much about leds other than they are overpriced and everyone i know who used them doesnt anymore and wouldnt recommend them.

But what im really here to say is if you've never used flourescents to flower, dont fucken tell people how they're gonna turn out. Ive got floro and hid. Never grew a mothafucken fluffy bud in my life

I have a 2x2 and a 600 watt vipar LED with 3x 5gallon airpots. Scrog net over all three... great ventilation... I think it is perfect for the space so far. The idea leds dont work in larger spaces is laughable though... watch the automazar scrog grow.
