'lolipopping'

this is my first attempt at sog grow i have made some errors in strains/size when flowered etc. anyways they have flowered for about 2 weeks now should i trim the undergrowth to maximize large colas on top or would this be too stressfull i think this is reffered to as 'lollipopping'. because light penetration will be an issue otherwise. i am just concerned about stress since some plants appear to have hermed slighty maybe strain maybe stress i dont know. i dont want to make things worse any informed answers appreciated:peace:

i think most people do it up to the second week of flowering, but if its becoming a bit of a hermie you might not want to, i've never lollipopped before this is just from reading, but i'm really not sure how stressfull it is for the plant

i would do it on wk3 cause thats when they start to bud and theyve done most of the stretching in the first 3 weeks

thanks for the quick responses im working with 400whps plus about 400wcfl's clipped to the reflector. so around 800 total watts. cfls dont penetrate like a hps so i want to keep all plants of equal height i have different strains so if i have to lst then i will. any other thoughts or response appreciated:peace:

maybe i will selectively trim undergrowth and use some branches for seed production. any thoughts or advice appreciated:confused:

i assume you wait till the 4th week so stretching is finished? i think im 2 1/2 or 3 weeks in flower i have to check my calendar. i will probably wait a week then. does trimming plants cause stress in your oppinion like possible hermes? thanks for the advice

i start during veg and trim as needed. by the 4th week i can see which branches will be low producers so i snip them. i can use the trimmed branches for clones or compost them. i've never noticed any "stress" and my plants don't go hermie on my. 1 did but i'm pretty sure it was strain related. i have over 20 other plants in the same room with no issues. :blsmoke:

crap. thats a good idea next time i will trim in veg and make clones. oh well i will do some trimming today they have been in flower too long for clones. i have taken and rooted clones in flower but it was a pain and took weeks. i have 2 moms anyways black domina and og kush. next time i will do it that way very productive and no waste of plant material. do you think that herms are generally genetic i have some male flowers on some strains and i dont know why? thanks bro:peace:

Hermies are often genetic, but can result from stress. I have heard that feminized seeds are more likely to go hermie , but have no personal experience to add.

that would make sense about the fem seeds because i think forced herms are used in there production. im going to use some herm pollen from a og kush clone on a healthy female that is not a herm and see if i get some fem seeds i know at least half will be herms but i like to learn and try new things. i will let everyone know the results:peace:

I have always avoided feminized seed for that reason,I just weed out the males, (sigh) but will be interested in your results. Good luck with it!!
