lol... you sure are something there bud. Don't you ever notice that everywhere you go a fight ensues? Do you think it's coincidence? Or that it's everyone else problem? Really?

Wow.
yeah I'm pretty amazed honestly...

FDD if you ever wondered why they demoted your ass, I think this is a good example... maybe you yourself can't see it, maybe you're gonna say I'm personally attacking you for calling it like it is...

well sorry bud, the truth hurts. and this whole situation could have been different.

i'll try again, ...

when i light my bowl i use a Bic lighter. i light the lighter and put the flame ABOVE the bowl, all the way over to the edge. some call this "corner hitting". then i GENTLY start to inhale until the BOTTOM of the flame is pulled down towards the bud. i back off as it starts to burn. by slightly raising and lower the height of the lighter i can control the HEAT that i am allowing to hit the bud. it's all pretty simpyk to do once you try it once or twice.

due to this fact, i call BS on all hemp wick lighting type products. i say "simply learn how to use a lighter".

that's my story. :)

me or him?

i simply called BS on hemp wick products. dude took it all personal for some reason.

and what if I use the same exact technique as I've been smoking for a long ass time? and using the same technique with hemp wick would result in more cannabinoids?

have you tried hemp wick extensively?

I'll never say. I love you both and wish all the info in those two brains could be shared with us in non hostile ways. (and without exagerations) ;)

you basically said that my experience was crap, so of course I'm going to take it personally. you are obviously weighing this based on YOUR experience, so this is basically inadvertaintly saying you don't value my experience on the matter. so yeah I take that personally, if you want to have a discussion with me and we're weighing in experience, you should be able to take in mine atleast somewhat, I don't discount your experience with a lighter... I just don't think you've tried enough hemp wick to be able to tell me for sure it doesn't get you higher...

yes, i have tried hemp wick and i do not prefer it. in MY opinion i found it to be BS, so i went back to simply using a lighter.

so what is my experience crap then? you think I am suffering from confirmation bias?

would I be going to far to say that maybe you don't notice subtle effects of getting slightly higher? maybe you only notice DRAMATIC effects...

you want your experience validated when you won't even recognize mine.

and now because i won't agree with you you are telling me what i did and didn't do.

seems you just want people to agree with you or shut up. guess i'll just shut up now. :)

well honestly this wasn't a debate thread about lighter vs hemp wick... this was a thread about a certain hemp wick vs another hemp wick.

if this were a debate thread then yes I would encourage you to continue to debate me.

but it's not, so yes I encourage you to be quiet if you don't have a good opinion about this.

besides, I really do think you don't notice subtle effects, such as getting slightly higher. I think after we get a few more people trying the hemp wick they can come back here and share their views, maybe many of them will notice it, then maybe you will consider the possibility that simply you don't notice it...

I guess I am discounting your experience because I think you do not notice subtle effects like that, maybe I'm wrong... but like I said lets get some more opinions and experiences up in here so we can really be certain about that.

I am certain it gets me higher but hey, to convince the public numbers count a lot more.

Threads gone Mafkees! lol

Well Poplars, I think about 4 or 5 people have purchased since I posted on the 600, so bullshit or not, we'll have a lot more opinions from people shortly.

I can see what fdd is trying to say with the lighter, however, if your BIC lighter is using cheap butane, no matter how far away the flame is, the element producing that flame will surely still be giving off impurities. I don't really know, but I got enough cash to buy a few wick reels to find out for myself. When I used wick in the past I was very impressed, I moved away from lighters for a while with glass rods instead, but jeezo, they are a pain unless you got the patience of job.

Peace

OH NO'S!!!!!!!! lighter impurities.

lol

how do you use a wick in the wind? what about driving? what if you have your pipe and lighter in your hand, but you left the wick in the other room? do you get off the couch to get the wick, or cheat and just use the lighter?

i'm 45. i've been using lighters for over 25 years. i'm still here. :)

you can use hemp wick in the wind by doubling it up (twisting it) and using a torch lighter to light it, it will stay lit just fine in the wind.

driving, shit man theres easy as hell ways, you can actually bend it to be in the perfect position on your pipe to just light it and hit it holding it with one hand blow it out with your hit... easy as fuck in fact easier than a lighter imo.

there really is no excuse leaving the wick othe rplaces, you can cut it in to so many pieces you can leave it EVERYWHERE.

its cool if you wanna stick to your lighter, just because your 45 and ok doesn't mean jack honestly, most of these underlying health issues associated with butane start apearing around age 55-65 such as emphasema and potentially other conditions I don't k now about.

EDIT:

doing a bit of my OWN research, .... http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/168236-Health-issues-surrounding-Butane-lighters

Butane lighters are not toxic at all.
What inside it its pure butane distilled and compressed from petroleum.

The combustion of butane doesnt give any nasty products, dont worry.
the combustion of butane and all other alkanes hydrocarbons follow a very simple formula.

2 C4H10 + 13 O2 ------> 8 CO2 + 10 H2O

So.. up here is the balanced formula.
As you can se butane(C4H10) needs oxygen to start combustion.
The end of reaction results in formation of carbon dioxide and water!
Hehehe....see?...nothing that bad!

Have ya ever tried (when u are playing around boered) putting the lighter flame next to a cold window glass?
You will notes that above the flame touching the glass some vapours are condensing on the window.
Those are water particules tha cime from the combustion reaction!
The carbon dioxide(CO2) since its a gas escapes and diffuses in the air.

SO........ Again...combusting butane isn't toxic at all.
you could inhale the vapours formed from combustion and nothing bad would happend to you.

All alkanes hydrocarbons: methane, ethane, propane, butane, pentane, dodecane...ect..... will combust in the same way...following the same formula.
they will al transfor into carbon dioxide and water.

Its useful to know some chem isnt it?

Ah...about the lighter flints.
No need to worry about that too.

Lighter flints are composed by an alloy of iron an cerium metal.
The cerium increses the reactivity of the flintstone and give it pyrophoric propeties.
The hard scratching of the lighter causes the metal to get hot and to become more reactive and it reacts with oxygen to form iron and cerioum oxide.
The reaction forming the oxides of the 2 metals is pretty energetic and fast.
This energetic reaction causes the little spark that gives enough detonating energy to ignite the butane and starte the reaction between butane and oxygen.

The forming iron and cerium oxide are 2 solids which are completely non volatile....wich means..they dont release molecules spontaneously.
The formed oxides just fall down as soon as the spark finishes.
those oxides are heavy and quickly follow the law of gravity after the sparkling.

No products from from the flint goes in you mouth/joint.
So again no need to worry. lighters are completely safe and untoxic.

I would rather inform you that weed itself gives you MANY nasty products in its combustion(in microscopic ammounts of course).
So far i can name you:

hydrogen cyanide
sulfur dioxide
nitrogen dioxide
formal dehyde
carbon monoxide
acrolein
ammonia
complex semihydrocarbon compounds

and there are many others.......

So...to conclude......NO.....lighters do not give toxic cmpounds.

PEACE

so you're confident that that flame is not leaving any leftover unburnt butane whatsoever?

I think that's a little too much confidence.

here's the effects of butane exposure on a higher scale, if you imagine these effects on a lower scale this can lead to a multitude of health issues....

By inhalation : Negligible hazard at ambient/normal temperatures. Breathing saturated vapours for a
few minutes may be fatal. Saturated vapours can be encountered in confined spaces
and/or under conditions of poor ventilation. May cause irritation, breathing failure,
coma and death without any warning odour being sensed. Avoid breathing vapours,
mists or fumes.

Acute : Butane has very similar properties to Propane, a summary of which follows:
At very high levels, propane has narcotic and asphyxiating properties and cases of sudden
death have been documented in which propane and propylene were identified in blood,
urine and cerebrospinal fluid. Animal inhalation studies indicate a gas concentration of
89% to be below the anaesthetic level, but to depress the blood pressure of cats. 1%
propane causes hemodynamic changes in dogs; 3.3% decreased inotropism of the
heart, decreases the mean aortic pressure, stroke volume and cardiac output, and
increases pulmonary vascular resistance. In the primate, 10% propane induces some
myocardial effects, and 20% aggravation of these parameters and respiratory
depression. 10% propane in the mouse and 15% in the dog appear to produce no
arrhythmia but weak cardiac sensitization. Ref: Pattys Industrial Hygiene and
Toxicology, 3rd Ed, G. Clayton and F. Claytons (eds), A Wiley-Interscience Publication,
Vol. IIB. Pp 3181 3182
the fact that it hasn't caught up to you yet doesn't give the rest of us comfort. you may have solved it in your own mind, but to us this is an issue we are going to solve with hemp wick.

and actually looking at these numbers again, these health effects were seen in less than 15% concentration!

that means over a long scale of time the butane is definitely having an effect.....
