Transplanting during flower sucks but I would do it to get into a bigger pot, get her under that LED ASAP. It sucks you didn't have time to train her for growing indoors but you should still be able to get some decent growth.

Just got my seed order in but I am currently doing a calibration grow to work out kinks and find perfect grow conditions for my space and equipment but after this round I will be starting either Purple Widow or Purple Skunk and while I veg and weed the males out of that I will be veging a mother of Moby Dick & Pineapple Express (Fem Seeds).

I have never had much luck ordering from the attitude bank seem like none of my cards would ever go through. then about a month after I gave them my info they had a breach in security on the side and my card number was stolen and maxxed out. the perp had ordered $400 worth of shit from some uk gaming website. I got my money back from my bank and all was well but needless to say I don't use attitude.

I read that that happend in the past and that they put tighter security in place to prevent that from happening but hey know one's exempt from online break in's. I used a card with a tiny limit and it's insured pretty well just in case.

I'm curious if LED lights have any impact on bringing out colors in colored genetics. I know a good amount of color has to do with climate but the Purple Skunk is an old school pure purple strain so we shall see.

Why even bother commenting in an led thread with that bullshit? I enjoy growing with my led lights and that's all that matters. I wouldn't touch cfls and I replaced my t5 veg lights for led...

I've been trying to gather information on the new wave of upgraded lights that will be realeasing in the next few months from several different companies and they have a lot in common - from new housings to new heatsinks, but the one that stand out are new lenses. Looks like the lenses will be upgraded to the same 1w and 3w tech before most companies make the jump to 5w or 6w panels. Any thoughts or additional info on this?

Dont know but when you find info please link! Im very curious about how theyre improving LEDs i dont think it will be too long before they start looking just as good as HPS and cheaper.

My predictions of what future improved LED's will be like:

-Diodes/chips being driven at higher wattages (say a 3w diode is able to run at 2.5w or even the full 3w's).
-Coverage becomes a stronger priority, we will see the physical size of the panels increase with a greater spread of the diodes.
-Better cooling with less fans and wasted juice, possibly liquid cooled or more practical "heat pipes" embedded into the heatsink.
The price will come down but not as fast as you think because the panels are getting more complicated as the components become cheaper to attain.
-A clear standard diode color pattern emerges that becomes a industry standard and has lots of data to back it up (kinda doubtful on this one).

Thats all I have right now... :P

price on em isnt bad either at under 400$
That's $400 for 90W! And looks like the intensity drops off very quickly outside of 12x12" area. I think I'd rather have the GLH Spectra 100W for $280 and be able to cover 24x24". This Kessil H350 may be great, but I'll need to see a journal before I buy the most expensive low powered LED with little coverage.

I'll work on gathering some links and stuff. The info I have now are some emails and info I found on other sites. Will compile what I have so far and report back.

I can see your first point happening as some companies, like blackdog, run at over 2w per. Not yet convinced on the larger panels. Like with most tech, consumers demand more punch in smaller packages, and I for one would rather have smaller lights. I think the new lenses may address coverage and footprint by intensifying diodes, so a 120 degree lense might become as intense as a 90 degree for example. Still trying to find out more details on those new lenses. New heatsinks are definitely going to be implemented.

from the kessil journals ive seen, i'd bank my money on the kessil over a 100w ufo for sure.

Speaking of Heatsinks, not long ago there were some posts about Blackstars not using finned heat sinks and that may lead to a heating or degrading problem. I have opened up one of my units up to see whats going on in there and noticed that there is channeled holes that go through the aluminum plate (which is a lot thicker that I though it was going to be) to the chip board. I then fired it up while the back was open so I could touch the plate and it is just warm to the touch.

I am no longer worried or feel the need to mod out the heat sink as it doesn't generate enough heat to cause problems or a short life. I am concerned however with the holes in the heatsink that go all the way through to the other side, this can lead to an issue if you don't use compressed air every once in awhile to clean them out. I will now be doing a full air cleaning at the start of every grow to ensure I don't get dust build up. Keep in mind this is for a Blackstar 240w panel and a 500 or 600 watter may have a higher temp to keep under control.

I am considering using some of my 120mm PC fan dust filters and bolting them on to each fan, there like $6 for a 2 pack on Newegg.com and don't restrict air while trapping 80% of the dust.

after using 3 h150's over a 2x3 area i feel that 2 of the 350's would easily cover the area give me 3x the amount of light that the 3 h150's give me for the same price as 3 h150's. So, ask yourself is kessil really all that expensive anymore? I love my h150 setup and my blackstar i just think that if your looking at h150's you probably will get more bang for the buck out of the blackstar initially because of price but the power usage compared to the kessils and the fact i like the way the plants budded better under the kessils yeild was definately more with the kessils but i believe that to be due to the fact that the light was spread better than the 240w blackstar grow, however 2 240w blackstars would put down more light and cover same footprint as 3 kessils. so many things to consider here but i can tell you from using both the kessils put down WAY more penetration power than the blackstars do, also use much less power so im eventually going to opt for switching over to them completely but if your on a budget and need to cover a decent area just run a scrog with a blackstar, if you want a bit more versatility out of your light and have a bit more coin to drop go with the kessil for sure its a performer.

The holes you see in the heat sink are the dozens of tiny screws which mount the PCB to the heat sink. You shouldn't have any empty holes (unless some screws were left off during factory assembly). Back in January or February there was some discussion about the effectiveness of these heat sinks as they relate to changing the wavelength of light that the LEDs produce. If you look at LED specs, they are tested at 25C junction temperature (77F), so you want your LEDs to be as cool as possible. Also, the cooler a diode is, the longer it lasts. So, to maintain optimum spectrum and longer life, they should have a factory heat sink with fins for the extra few dollars it would cost would be easily justified. I used an infrared gun to test heat of the BS240 heat sink before and after modification, check my sig if ya like. If you do try to mod, just stick some heat sinks on the back and call it good-- I went too far and it was a PITA, but did learn something about their setup as the PCB is stamped for 2W chips. (wtf?!?)

I'll check into your mod for sure and if the board is stamped for 2w chips it might be because the board is running 3w chips uder spec? No clue other then that guess. My area is 77f constant but I'm all for extending the life of my investment. Thanks for the info!

I think I see a lot of silly thoughts here

120 degree lens cannot possible work the same/aswell as a 90 degree lens (they are 2 differen't angles!).

Panels won't get larger, that makes individual units too expensive and people won't buy those because they want LED to be cheaper. If you spread the diodes out over a larger space that increases the cost to build/ship sooo much I don't see why people are not understanding this.

There is also no way they could get a 3w diode to run at 3w without dieing, and in the time it would take to improve their efficiency to say get it up to 2.9w or something, you could have just invented a higher wattage diode say the 5w or hell maybe there will be 10w diodes that kick ass in a few years? ***I think the whole naming it 3w is just thats the highest it can pulse/test at without being destroyed. Therefore diode will never run their full wattage rating?

And how long was that blackstar running before you tested it?(i don't imagine a ~140w total watt panel would get too hot anyway)

*not trying to be a troll or hating or anything

Update: While I am impressed with what kessil can do watt for watt, they don't have good coverage (although they are pretty cool, they need to be cheaper to make up for the lack of coverage). I have seen nothing of their newest toy but I really want to, anyone have a link to a good cannabis grow with one?

jdizzle I have had this thread subscribed for some time now I see you are quite active in this thread I have a couple questions.

First the recent talk of upgraded panels from these others forum members has deterred me from purchasing a Blackstar once again. In your opinion would I be wasting my money buy purchasing a blackstar is there a new model coming out soon that would totally make the current ones obselete?

And second I always see people talking about 3W diodes that don't run at 3W so if they do not run at 3W what is the point of even calling them a 3W diode? However I am assuming these are in some way related to a computer processor does achieving more power in the diode have something to do with how much one can overclock these units or is that far off from the subject?
