i hate that our world uses Styrofoam! i reuse the stuff as much as possible! i hate throwing it out!
Pretty much and it also works as a insulating pot to keep the root network slightly warmer, as the roots growth and the microbes and crap doing what they do creates a very minor amount of heat but if that heat is contained it can help root growth (or at least it's a theory...I need to have a controlled experiment to find out.)

the floor of my grow box is lined with 1" foam (used from an old project) for that exact reason. it works great!

Thanks for the compliment bro!... now for a quick update.

Chapter 7: Let the buds start to grow... Let the buds start to grow... LET THE BUDS START TO GROW!!!!!!... GROWWWWW!! GROWWWWWW!.. grow.

006.jpgWell it is hard to tell will take better pics in a day or two but all of them are developing their first little hairs.... aww... little gimpy plants are going to make something for me no matter what.

013.jpgAnd here is this quirky beast I have been lightly supercropping but I need to find a way to do lst in a smart pot as the effects during veg were magnificient so a combo of the two if done sparingly will be interesting. I am pretty happy with how many budsights this little plant has and I have been keeping it pretty uniform so it has been trying to develop mostly tasty top colas for me. Yup I dunno how long it has been but not long I don't think and already I see the first signs of buds, seen it a thousand times but never gets old. :D

Now... what do you guys use for LST? I need to tie this girl down soon as she may overgrow her speaker box and would like some suggestions.

let the buds begin!!!!!!!! i use thin insulated solid core wire that i have left over from some garage door openers. it's 20awg i think... that works awesome. you want something that bends very easy, the plant isn't that strong to bend it open. you could make small anchors in soil using bent coat hangers or other strong wire then tie string to them. just my $.02

hey hippy, plants look great bro!

for lst, i first used this stuff called "floral wire" available at hardware stores, but turns out to be too thin and it ends up cutting into the stems. i switched over to insulated wire, probably the same exact thing that stoney uses, and i love it! stays exactly how you bend it. i also got "sticky hooks" and put those around the rim of the pot to anchor the ties.

if you can't find wire, i hear pipe cleaners (like from a stationary store) are good, but *don't* get the ones at the $ store -- those things are crap, the fuzzy stuff falls off and it'll get all over your plants. fair warning lol.

Time to hit the hardware hut for some insulated wire and some clips then thanks guys!

Also time for a new quote of the month for the signature. Keeping the founding fathers theme for now. (copied for future reference so I don't reuse a quote):

"Some of my finest hours have been spent sitting on my back veranda, smoking hemp and observing as far as my eye can see."

looking good man, i have used twist ties, string, and i think gumball said something about rubberbands?? i always drill holes in the top of my pots first, that way i have somewhere to tie off to if needed.

could you maybe put the smart pot in something that you could tie to... like a cage or a clothes basket or something to surround the rim.... just brain storming....

Maybe if I can find something that would be more convenient. But so far it looks like I will just clamp insulated wire to the side once the time comes, cause I have a feeling the buds will eventually grow large enough to touch the cfl's even after it goes down to the bottom of it's box.

may i suggest a dollar tree hat? lol... but maybe...?

p.s. it's about 10" diamater at the rim in case that helps.

Yea nice thought but I am afraid of rust, nice thought though.

P.S.

just checked on the plants the mini's are already smelling up and they barely have hairs and the some kinda diesel I swear her buds just grew last night to a noticeable degree, she is going to be one helluva plant.

haha it was worth a shot! (so far so good on my hat by the way)

hippy, i hope you don't mind if i mini threadjack for sec, but i wanted to show you a couple pics of my tomato cloning experiment, because i'm using a system inspired by your stuff.... what do you think? just used a plastic & cardboard cups i had lying around and a skewer i split in two..

cup1.jpgtomato_mother.jpgclone.jpgcup2.jpg

p.s. sounds awesome about the diesel!

Yup! Should work out great I use that exact technique with tomatoes except I use slurpee cups and just put big gulp lid on it and stick it in the window! speaking of which time to go get a plant from the nursery and start cloning for this years tomaters's thanks for reminding me!

P.s.
Have you ever experimented with glucose injections with a tomato? It does wonder's to squash but makes them tough as heck (good luck making a jack-o-lantern out of one) so they are best stewed and such but friggin' monsterously huge considering trying it this year with a tomato, you ever tried it?

no brotha, i've never even heard of glucose injections. this tomato plant started off as an unknown seedling that was growing on a rag in the kitchen! i planted it, used my weed growing skills to bring it up, and now it's got tomatoes and it's overgrowing my living room lol! i live in an apartment, so i have no outdoor space to put it!! there are two maturing tomatoes (medium size) on it.... and i'm trying the cloning because i can't keep that huge plant much longer haha... how do you inject glucose? straight into the tomatoes?

Never done it with a tomato but with squash you inject the stem at the base of where the fruit is growing from. Grampa taught me how to do it, with sugar water I eventually used basic deduction from plant knowledge that the glucose was pretty much a squash steroid as long as ya didn't overdo it. (beet sugar causes more issues even though thats what gramp's used I prefer glucose or dextrose if glucose isn't avaible. or is it dextrose then glucose?)

P.S.
it's the only way any of my buttersquash and pumpkins and watermelon's survive the squirrel onslaught in my area, I even feed them peanut's and millet to appease them and still nature demands more sacrifice... sigh... I just don't wanna pay 80 bucks a lb for a decent organic veggie.

Im digging how flat you got your bitch to grow. I tried to do some supercropping with the LST, I'm not sure if I fucked it up or not haha. Stay ghetto :leaf:
