Why do deer eat it?

Deer are attracted to the scent of the freshly dug up earth. That is why the young plants are taken by them.

Example- Deer generally will hang out with the squirrels in the winter because the squirrels are constantly digging up old nuts on the forest floor and help disturb the ground in those harder months, which helps the deer to find food and make "deer beds".. now deer have learnt that life is easier with the squirrels help over generations or perhaps at the begining of time " not sure". Anyway Deer also dig up the ground voluntarily in the fall to help the breeding season get under way..

Those are 2 very real and in depth explantaions of why young plants become "missing" and usually when they come up missing. there are deer tracks nearby. Fresh earth smell is the good life to the deer, only to be dissapointed to find a stupid little plant is what the fuss is about.. This is usually the case- the deer scrape your plants up looking and digging for the good food.

That is why it is so "up in the air" when planting in the woods in spring.. the deer are still in the habbit of finding where the squirrels have been. the good life

I think you guys may be thinking about this a little differently then i do...
Last year i had 2 different outdoor sites, one in the mountains, and one by a lake somewhere. The mountain site was completely eaten after i transplanted in the spring because of the damn deer, they ate it quick to. The site next to the lake, i had ZERO plants eaten by deer, and thats crazy because there were way more deer next to the lake. One day a hunter spotted me from his tree stand, we both saw eachother, im sure he was wondering wtf i was doing in there...but thats when it hit me..

The deer didnt find my plants i think because of a couple reasons. First, i was far from any deer trail. When you look at the brush, you can see where the deer roam, and lay down. I stayed far away from those deer trails. Also, i had planted in a location that was surrounded by over growth, and different kinds bushes/shrubs and blackberries. I beleive that if the deer even walked over to my spot, they wouldnt even care about it because of how many other plants are in the area that they are used to eating.

Maybe instead of pissing on ur plants/grow site plant "diversion plants" that deer enjoy eating...get them full of something else they wont eat ur plants

man your looking at this the wrong way.

What I do is, setup a nice meal for a deer, right in the middle of a covered beartrap. (gotta be patient it might take you several tries before your trap snags a deer). Once you have your deer. hang the deer by your plants. This method is the best at detering deer.

The next deer that walks by yo spot be like " dam man they kill jimmy we better get the fuck outta here, they onto us ".

and the other benefit is the dying deer smell covers up your plants smell. not to mention all the life a hanging deer brings to a grow spot.

hope that helps ezz

Last year I tried Fox piss, cat shit, dog shit, hair, soap , mothballs, my piss an shit an more.
The liquid fence kinda worked for a few monthes thell they got eaten.
The only thing that worked is a cage, an it must cover the roots an top or they will still get in.

I cought about 10 of em at my spot last year, they didnt even run, just walked over about 20 yard an laughed at me cause the plants were eaten.
