This is technically true, but the wording you used is misleading. Not dissing you, fdd ... just trying to clarify things for Lacy.it varies by county how much you can have at ounce. the state limit is 8 ounces. when i first got my card years ago it said 4 grams a day. this was a club purchase limit. nobody ever followed it because you could be buying for the week or month. i've bought up to an ounce at ounce. you can visit once daily.

Prop 215 was the initiative passed by the voters of California to make marijuana legal for GENUINE medical patients to grow and possess medical marijuana providing they had a letter of recommendation from their doctor. The problem was, there were no guidelines for amounts. It was up to each county to put their own guidelines into place. Well, some counties were just off the wall with restricting amounts ... and the Sheriffs were still hassling people, taking their grow equipment, plants and buds.
Enter SB 420. This was passed by the state legislature in an effort to bring the counties under control. SB 420 says that the counties MUST allow a medical user to be in possession of at LEAST eight ounces of finished bud, six flowering plants and twelve immature plants ... like rooted clones and vegging plants. Some counties are allowing far more plants and buddage ... BUT they MUST allow the minimum amount.
Enter the California Highway Patrol: They were still confiscating anything they found in possession of med users during highway stops. They were citing federal law. The state Attorney General finally put a stop to the antics of the CHP last year. So, a medical user, found to be in possession of eight ounce or less during a traffic stop MUST be let go, and MUST be able to keep his/her medicine, providing he/she can show the medical letter and isn't driving under the influence.
I drive to NorCal one a year to meet with other med users over a long weekend. There's usually 50+ people there. We meet to trade cuttings, seeds, hash, hash-oil, buds and edibles. I usually drive that long distance from SoCal with at least two ounces of bud, six rooted cuttings and a couple of dozen of my canna-cookies. I have the confidence that if stopped, all I have to do is to show my medical letter and I'll be on my way. Not too bad, eh?
And by the way, California does have a medical card provision that says local, county health department MAY issue medical users cards ... but its not necessary to have one as long as you have your doctor's written permission.

Outside of the weather, (I like it warm), Canada has us beat unilaterally in every category. Free medical, less restrictive freedom laws, No major assholes for PMs, although you better keep your eyes on this last one, he is buddies with the Bush and wants to go conservative in every way, stricter laws, elimination of the free medical, stay alert up there.I think we are better off here in canada, sticking with the compassion clubs. You still get a card that is legal.

Actually you should do some research on that one there... It WAS made legal for MEDICAL purposes to help suffering people who already used it for (medical) pain relief or to batlle effects of chemo therapy and more... Not the other way around... =O
