i clipped a good amount of my leaves off

is that ok? i was thinking that if i clipped off some leaves that the buds will get more light and grow bigger. is it better to have more leaves that shadow more of the plant? or to cut off a good amount of the leaves so the buds get more light?

let me know if i am correct and any thing that could be beneficial to me

well there's two trains of thought here:
1. it gives more light to new growth
2.Fan leaves supply vital energy to the plant and it's buds

Gotta find the happy medium. I wouldn't chop off to many fan leaves but if it mean a whole new shoot I'm all for it. I recently took out 2 fan leaves on my stockiest lady and ince than you couldn't even tell I did cuzza te new leave that filled the space. :/

Oh and if your flowering thn IMO it' a huge mitake.

thanks i will post pics as soon as i can.

i have 3 dif female strains , all dif ages, growing next to eachother.

Bubblegum Kush (bought as a clone around 1month old, planted on Oct 16)

Blue Dream (bought as a clone about 3 weeks old Oct 12)

Diablo OG Kush (planted the seed on Oct 8 . )

but i want to post pics to see if someone else can tell me about how long they think the blue dream and bubble gum will take to harvest.

makes no sense, you know that only 15% of the light that hits a leaf interacts with chloroplasts and the rest continues on? oh well, you know now.

Cutting fan leaves has been discussed on here about a thousand times and they all come to the conclusion that you just dont do it.

just becuz some people cut fan leaves doesnt make it a "train of thought" lol the fan leaves are solar panels that gather energy to the plant and where most photosynthesis takes place, thus cutting fan leaves reduces bud development and yield. it's sad how such myths get to the newbs. we should have a sticky titled "DO NOT cut fan leaves!" lmao

IMO i dont think cutting a few fan leaves off is a big deal. but like everyone else here is saying its been talked about hundreds of times. Depending who you talk to you will get 2 answers.

1. OMFG you stuped dumass u MUST leave da leaves on or u get tiny budz and shity weed.
2. cutting da leaves off can ONLY increse da bud size because it haz moar lights on duh budz!

i think realistically there must be a middle ground, if you have a plant with 100 leaves and you notice there is a cluster in one area covers 2 nice bud sites, then fuck it.. cut 1 or 2 leaves, and bend slightly the other ones out of the way.

so again imo i think trimming/pruning is ok in moderation.

Leaves are what catches the light to use for photosynthesis. They are needed for a plant to grow and be healthy.

true the very basic photosynthesis light = life sure, but did you ever wonder why the bud that has been sitting under all the foliage in the dark is so small compared to the ones in the light? see this is why i said " in moderation" because "sometimes" you need to cut a leaf or two, it does happen. my first outdoor grow we decided to test it like three years ago. we had trimmed an area so that light would get all the way to the bottom of the branch where as we left everything else the way it was, now.. the branch we trimmed a bit actually had a smaller main bud, but the rest of the buds down the branch were bigger then other lower parts of other branches. coincidence? perhaps im no plant expert just a dude who has grown a few plants who likes to try a bit of everything.

im not saying anyone here is wrong, and i do agree that the leaves are VERY important to a nice healthy plant, but i can also see how trimming a little can help the as well.

so do what you feel you need to do to your plant, if it does not work out how you planned, guess what? grow another one and dont do what ever you did to mess it up the first time... its a plant... you can grow another one.:joint:

You've really got to be careful of the info you recieve here. It's obviouse that many only repeat what they think, heard, read, etc. Look for people with answers that do have a clue and actually tried it. Wish I could post a link to another site because they actually tested and got solid results.
This was one of my test. All stem born fan leaves were systematicly removed. Results were total bud from ground to tip. Plants were also an experiment on how miniature I could keep them.

Here is a recent 1 plant AF that also had fans sysyematicly removed.

Here is a grow of 5 ongoing that has ALL fans removed unless there is frost potential involved. Basicly, only the smaller fans were left on the young buds at the time and maintained.

By-the-way, ALL that green in there are buds and sugars w/ very few fans on the buds.
Taken last night but not to show for this post. If you'd like I can take a few individual shots to better see results of removing the solar panels. ;-)

Removing leaves willy-nilly may not actually be wise. But with a intent and the right way, removal can certainly work in your favor in many circumstances (but not all).
Becomes part of a grow style just like FIM, LST, SCROG, etc.

You are good. Don't worry about removing a few leaves. It's a weed and will compensate with new bud sites and maybe a shoot or two. We all know, more bud is good. (right?)

OhI am not against cutting a few leaves of but he is asking about removing MOST of his leaves.
I read;
" i was thinking that if i clipped off some leaves that the buds will get more light and grow bigger."

I don't see "most" indicated / hinted or mentioned there.
