Hey all. I'm fairly new to growing and i plan on starting a grow once I feel confident I've learned enough. I would like to know the ideal coverage area (sq.ft.) of a single 400w vs. a single 600w HPS. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Great timing on this thread. I couldnt decide which size to get for my 34" x 40" flower room. It looks like 400w will be OK, and will help so I dont overload my circuit it is sharing with the veg room.

You can go as big as you want as long as you can keep the temp down. I've seen people grow 2 plants under a 1000w in a cool tube. I personally have a 400w air cooled hood in a 3x3' tent.

How about if I stagger my grow. Like flower 2 plants for a month before I put 2 more plants in. would the taller plants affect the light coverage on the smaller ones as there is only one bulb? I would like to harvest smaller amounts more often.

Have to keep the veg and flower seperate. 18+ hrs for veg and 12/12 for flower and the light height has to be even or the plants will reach and stretch for the light.

Thanks for the info I've been lurking for quite a while now just reading everything I can. I already plan on vegging under a 400w MH in a seperate area. I suppose I could move the new plants higher to equal the height of the old plants.
