This isn't about humanitarianism. I just don't think we have a chance at succeeded at the mission we've set and even those who are proponents of the strategy (i.e. mcchrystal and petraeus) admit that it would take years. I'm seriously starting to doubt that any of this COIN stuff can actually work in afghanistan. Even in iraq, it was more internal politics that ended that violence there more than anything we did...

dude the leak did not happen because the ocean floor is brittle, it happend because BP wanted to save money and they removed heavy drilling fluid from the shaft to reuse it without doing the standard test before they did it. they filled the shaft up with seawater wich is much lighter that the drilling fluid and they didnt do the test first and the oil well blew its top


all rock can be considered brittal as it is not elastic, a nuke would melt all the surrounding rock and stop the leak,
