Sethi, dont waste time on this, JG is a pro troll who is just after attention and i think his real target is actually hybridway. Read his posting history, youll see, his goal is enthusiastic boosting of everything most of us get riled up about (mars/hybrid etc) in order to create mayhem. Dont waste your breath on him.

Noticed the pattern myself. Suprised only one person called it a sockpuppet account but pretty sure most here know i don't play that shit.
First i was flattered but now I'm just glad you guys aren't buying into it.

What most do not realize is Spider Farmer is Mars Hydro...... They send this stuff straight to a Amazon warehouse from China. They can sell this stuff super cheap because thier predatory government subsidizes them 20%. All while I pay taxes on my inventory every year let alone corporate tax and then my personal income tax. American companies cost of doing business is a lot higher than China. Then you wonder why you can't find a living wage job.......

Also there are millions of rejected LEDs sold on the Chinese black market every day. So saying it's the same thing isn't true.

We are innovating. The Rspec is about 1 year old. We have a DE replacement coming this month that is 2.8 umol/j+ and a rack light in 2-3 months that will crack 3.0 umol/j. No our rack light isn't a bar light either. Only hold up on rack light is drivers.

We could have kept building our boards in China like the very early days but instead we took the leap of faith, borrowed nearly a million dollars, bought the equipment to build it right here in the US and created good paying jobs. Before we did that we signed a multimillion dollar P.O. with a US manufacturer in Michigan not knowing if we would go bankrupt or what. We hadn't even sold 2k boards at that point. You wanna talk about risk. I poured every last dollar to my name into this company to the point I was behind on my house payment. So no I do not feel one bit guilty about throwing shade at some Chinese company that rips our product off, uses our product name to drum up business. Spider Farmer lies about thier efficiency, they lied and said ETL certified when it was not. They used quantum board over and over when we asked them nicely to stop several times. So yeah I don't care much for MARS HYDRO/SPIDER FARMER

We innovative they imitate. Sure we have to stop companies from using our trademark. Hell China was printing our name on boards and selling them. People would call for warranty service and it wasn't even our stuff. It hurts us if someone buys a "Quantum Board" and it has inferior LEDs on it or burns out early.

Not one single person here would feel any different if they came out with a product to only get copied by the Chinese.

Well explained. With you on that. They went to far. But did you patent your design & name? Is it patentable?
Amare had a similar problem
But patents kicked in & all knock offs were distinctively different & could not use the Amare name .
Or did China steel your desighn from early dealings like so many others?

What about Nextlight? were they not the first?
Not really. The first to use discrete leds was smart grow. Next light doesn't use their housing as a heatsink. Their design has holes cut in the housing to allow the pcb to cool itself. Also I already had prototypes in hand when the mega came out. I didn't have the capitol to come out swinging unfortunately. Also Nextlight was using 561B and we started with 561C. They still use 561B+ to this day. We were definitely the first in horticulture to use th lm301b. Fluence passed on them for a while. We ate the cost because we had increased volume enough to absorb it. I'm not even against pcbs in general. It's the 100% or close enough knockoffs that tick me off. I mean same damn screw pattern and 8 row design. There isn't 1mm difference anywhere on the boards. Our 550 is a class 2 design made more to mimic a SE HPS throw. I intentionally made the hot spot on the 550. It has to do with the inverse square law. When I designed the 550 there were and still are plant count restrictions on medical grows. So I designed it to have a better lower canopy penetration than a light that is spread out farther. A plant canopy is not 2D like a par map. Think 3D. That is why you saw the industry move to larger hoods only to move back to much tighter fixtures such as the Gavita.

Does the 550 really look like anything before it? The mega is 37"x37" the 550 is 20"x26".

No we used a very big company in China that has not copied our design. A couple of members of this board did us the favor of sending our products to China to be copied. I won't name names.

As a matter of fact we sold the first 500 below cost to get it out there. It wasn't until we committed to the huge qty in the US that we saw a profit. Several smaller Chinese reached out and tried to get us to build with them but we didn't. We bought the LEDs through distribution and had them sent to the smt assembly plant. We made sure we got what we paid for. It costed us extra for sure.

IF it's true that SF = Mars then why does Mars still make their other crap lights? Sorry, not buying it

And what exactly are you 'innovating' a bunch of identical nm monos on a board? That's precisely what Nick was doing with his original SPYDR 600s, when I approached him. Please

or calling them Quantum? Please tell us what is quantum about your lights?

Hi Stephen
New to the forum but not new to the lighting world. I just wanted to let you know that you have my support and although it is a struggle right now I hope you get all you IP struggles sorted out. Too many liars in this industry and the reason why your company was copied so much is because you told the truth and also provided proper lab tests unlike just about every other company.

sphere tests also seem to be a problem.

Amare arent shit on HLG and youre STILL the only guy i know using em.
Never heard of a par-meter hu?
You'd have to know more people then just the ones on this forum i guess. Something tells me your friend's are limited.
HLG IS GREAT & once they Combine the R-Spec & B-Spec they'll have a nice Amare QB!

The name, Quantum Board. Which HLG paid to trademark. Ever stop to think why, the knockoff sellers thought it would help them sell products, to slip that in there listings?
They didn't just copy the name of the product, they made near identical knock offs. I have been to lighting fairs in Asia and seen them everywhere. The Quantum board name is very well known but they don't know who came up with it they just copy anything they see. I asked many of them if they know who HLG is and they don't have a clue.
This is normal practise in China as a lot of the time they are copying another Chinese factory and have no idea who came up with the name or design.
If a PCB is produced by a factory and not kept under an OEM contract then the PCB supplier offers it to other companies
You can buy all the components such as the PCB leds connectors at the chinese online markets and then put it together and say look at what I made.
It will look the same and may even use the same brand name leds on it. It doesn't mean its the same though.
