HLG550 vs Gavita? Anyone with experience with either/both?

It's basic plant biology that longer internodal distance would cause the flowers to be less dense, as the internodes are where the buds start stacking from.
Clearly others here will see that you are an amateur hour, Data Sheet Betty with that statement.
Have you ever seen an OG strain grow in person? Touched or fondled the live plant??
Bit fat internode spaces longer than your peepee, yet rock hard little golf ball nugs.
Just stop bro, your starting to damage your rep ;)

What would make a side by side legit? I can take my cobs down on one half of the 4x8 and hang one of my 600 watt hps?
A legit side by side would be optimum environment for both light source or if you did like 6 side by sides 3 favoring led 3 favoring hps environment and got the average that would be a somewhat fair comparison. Honestly side by side is pointless now. led have matched/exceeded hps depending on how they are configured. It's just preference now

No. They do claim it is a 1000w SE replacement though. DEHPS is ~20-30% better than SEHPS. The HLG 600H kit that costs $300 less than the 550 is 110 more watts, which is like 20-30% better. 550 = 1120ppf and the 600h = 1450ppf
Yes but lower effeciency per watt and less spread the 550 should perform the same as the 600

no they claim the 550 will match an SE HPS.

By the PPFD numbers it does (see cree horticultural ref), but I think its actually a wee bit shy from what i see in my own grows..

The hlg 550 is 2.3umol/j if accurate and is lower than a decent diy qb job due to the proximity of the boards to each other, guessing the 600w will have even less system efficiency...... but they should be very close to a hort positioned 1000w se in a hood (after losses) .

Spectrum(quality) will come into play with the slight differences your seeing? Or not

You're right. I never said I did. I was providing info on them, that is all. We already went over this, but you're bringing it back up to make me look like I'm a poser that doesnt know anything about growing. Whatever makes you feel good about yourself....

I actually have 8x gavitas sitting collecting dust, I got them for $50 a pop (no bulb) because the reflectors are dented or warped. Dont plan to ever use them now that ive seen what the new LED tech is capable of. If you want any of them, let me know........

All of a sudden now you have gavitas yesterday you did not. Today you have them but have not used them .You're story is all over man. So if this post is true then you're not a poser because you have a handful of gavitas you have never used before. But since you got to look at them that makes you qualified to give advice on using them? Lol..........

yeah...or space i guess. Im tempted but there isnt a second hand market for grow gear in England so i'd end up throwing money in the bin again.

I need a lot more lights in a couple months but they'll all be led. Apart from the efficiency gains, a big reason and a MAJOR benefit of LEDs for me is their low profile light uniformity because i wanna build a shelved flower room at my new place...this will literally double my output in the same space - you just cant do that with HPS unless you have 30ft ceilings. That's a massive plus imo, granted, not everyone is gonna do that but its difficult to argue against.

You mean the Titan 4 Speed Controller that VOIDS the warranty of hight $$ Fans such at the 14" Can-Fan MaxFan??
Who runs a 14" fan in a "small" grow? You seem to be really reaching here. If you want high end the hurricane fan and controller are great. Also, these fans work really well and for the price, they are a steal. Super quiet. Temp control and use 36 watts wide open. We have one. Most of the time it will use 6-13 watts with a good efficient led.

Anyone can download the report on our site. Just a heads up the 550 might be seeing a little output bump in a few weeks. ~10%

Dude, what the fuck? Why are you so hostile today? Chill the hell out, man. You apparently don't realize it, but it just looks like you're projecting your narrative on people. You freaked out on me, insisting that I said things I never said, and meant things that you assumed I meant, and now you're trying to light up this dude. Who fucking cares? If you're genuinely concerned that people are going to be mislead with bad advice, then just calmly and courteously offer your take on it, and let the OP draw his own conclusions. Is trying to take the piss out of strangers on the internet really that important? That shit isn't good for you, man. And consider that you're talking to people who have something very special in common with you - we all grow weed. It's supposed to be a fucking peaceful scene. (And please don't drag out the tired and over-used "do you even grow, bro?" bullshit.) There is absolutely no fucking good reason to try to relentlessly run someone down like that. And yes, I questioned your reading comprehension. My apologies for coming across a dick, but when you insist on putting words in my mouth, it gets right on my tits. I'm all for having it out in a rational fashion, but this shit makes me check the fuck out. Why can't we all just get along?

I dont use the gavitas. I never have grown with them. I just have a bunch laying around because I couldnt pass up the deal. Not saying I am qualified to give advice using them as ive only grown under single ended. I just want you to realize that I am not stupid just because I dont have tons and tons of grows using every kind of light out there. I've gathered a ton of input from gardens and growers both online and in person, and I know the ins and outs of most grow lights, regardless if I have my OWN experience using them.

I wouldnt be spending hundreds on new LEDs if those Gavitas were something I wanted to use. I look at HPS grown bud under a loupe and compare to my LED grow stuff, and it's remarkable how many trichome heads are destroyed under the HPS lamp from the IR blasting on the buds all day. Bigger colas get REALLY warm under HPS compared to the air temps, which harms trichs, potency, and smell. LED buds have all the trichs in tact.

I love how with LEDs, you can achieve those crazy high levels of PAR you can get with HPS/DEHPS, yet you dont need a stupid amount of wasted vertical height just to spread the light evenly and to manage the intense IR beam that they emit. You can build an LED light to equal the PPF output of the gavita, and spread the leds out evenly and you'll have the power of the DEHPS in a light that can be placed 18" away without any heat problems or light bleaching. Many commerical gardens, not just cannabis btw, is swapping to LED just because of that. They can stack gardens on top of eachother using LEDs, and just multiply their crop yields many times over, while enjoying the energy savings of large scale LED growing.

Yeah I have a problem with people being fake and acting like they have used gear that they have not. I have a problem with all the data sheet Nazi on here who haven't grown a tomato let alone everything and just was to discuss the effificncy of this product vs another .That what made me "check out" from this section and the same bull shit continues. Secondly what is it to you me calling someone out for being a fake? Do you have such a desire to argue that you're going to continue to jump in the middle of shit that has nothing to do with you? And furthermore I didn't say you made anything up I quoted what you typed in response to something I wrote if you didn't realize who you were responding to that's on you. So don't try to play innocent either and act like the good guy with your passive aggressive bs we already went over this. You don't like what I type hit the ignore button or stay out of shit that has nothing to do with you . You throw smart ass remarks out insinuating people can't read and then expect to be treated like a princess well that's not how life works. Are you and skoomd dating or something that you have to constantly come to his rescue?

A very long and wordy way to say I have no right to be discussing which is better between a gavita and an hlg because I haven't the slightest clue because I have not used either .

Congrats

I havent mentioned HLG in the last 3 or 4 posts bro. I am explaining why I prefer my LED strip lights, which I DO have, over those Gavitas which my friend who I essentially grow along side with uses. But I guess that doesnt count, nor do all the pics online of gavita grows.... I have to use them myself to know how they grow right?>........

Like others have said, it's just fucking lights. It's nice to converse back and forth information, data, and experience with each other, and if something works better for you, then great. But for me, and a lot of bleeding edge commercial growers, LEDs are the way to go.

I will straight up say now that it takes 750w of LM561C diodes (qbs/strips) to equal the PPF output of a 1000w DEHPS light, just to clear the water. Not the 620w I said waaaay earlier here.

Spectrum, technique, and all kinds of factors will determine if a grower pulls the same yield using both lights. But low temp white LEDs pack mostly red ,, followed by green light, versus DEHPS which outputs mostly yellow, followed by red. Red and green are proven to be the best for photosynthesis (green only in bright white light), and there's a lot more of it in the spectra than DEHPS has.

So theory (I know you hate that word, but you can go cry about it then) says that if the PPF of these white LEDs is the same as DEHPS, the LEDs should be able to yield more just because the spectrum is more suited for optimal photosynthesis.

I can say this. The Elite is like 700 cranked up right? Thats to much for my 4'x4'. I now have it dimmed covering one plant in a 4'x4' & about 30"-34" high. image.jpg
Personally, I haven't quite gotten past the whole different plants needs under white led. Big life changes just occurred though & ill be able to focus
None of us have the money to do a legit side by side
It ain't that bad dude. Right now I have a SourD under the Amare Bar8 & one also under the Thouie.
In my flower room, I have more problems under the LEDs then I do under the HPS or MH. Seriously, I can't even remember when my plants didn't like HPS or MH. But 1 out of 3 struggle under led in flower for ME.
I keep trying cuz I see others here w/ happy led flower plants. My main problem is some sort've what i think is a lock out related to plants that appear to more sensitive under the LEDs. Maybe one nute ingredient thing is not photosynthesizing properly in conjunction w/ the fuller spectrum or maybe it's the lack of IR. I dunno n it's driving me nuts. This is the whole reason why I have HPS even hanging in my room. Been doing comparisons for the past 3 runs. And each time I lose a plant early flower on the led side. Maybe not that much plant chopping but it certainly feels like it when you got 3 months into vegging a perfectly healthy monster n it just shuts the bed on me once it gets under high powered LEDs.
As far as An HLG 600w QB or Elite, it does cover said area & has matched my 1000 in yeilds. The Thouie covers more area in an overlapping scenario (especially the Raptor n Solis-Tech hoods I'm using) but the concentration of the Elites light density (has lenses) makes for a brighter 4'x4' then the Thouie I'm using, if you get what I'm saying.
If I had more ceiling height or grew smaller plants then I would've used a one of my XtraSun medium sized hoods & would've came allot closer to matching the density in that space.
I think the HLG 600 would fit my room better. I'd simply bend & fasten a 90• shroud/reflector to go right around the whole fixture. Seen another guy do it vert. Maybe @tstick?
I'd get the QB over the DE & add some enhancement to it.
