I own guns. I see no reason to not protect my investment. That's a lot of money. I have a safe. A real one. One that you would need a forklift to move. If that's not realistic for you then buy the best you can afford and bolt it in place.

If the people are the problem, doesn't it still make sense to have laws that help prevent those people from obtaining guns?

We are presenting you ideals that may not apply to all situations. You shouldn't feel attacked for people stating you should generally lock up your guns. You were smart to walk that back and in a way you admit you are securing your guns in a few ways. That's fine.

Government is the tool the people use to solve problems that we unavoidably face together; they are inherently social, think tragedy of the commons. We are the government, so it is incorrect to say all people really just want arbitrary control, when many only want to control what we all have to share in a fair way. Gun violence affects us all. We can use many mechanisms to try to mitigate, and gun regulations are one part of that.
