LED Thread regarding stalk weight difference between LED & HPS

the only problem with them lasting years upon years is a two year old led is considered an outdated piece of crap compared to the new chips they develop at least once a year so far....when that start slowing down, when the new tech is lasting at least two or three years before its hopelessly outdated, then i'll start seriously shopping
Well, look no further because we're approaching the realistic threshold of efficiency. At this point if you buy something and it goes out of date, it was out of date when you bought it. aka blurple cheap leds.

^^ and its not as easy for a person to purchase. 1800w LED light anyone....900w viper....??? LOL. Industry is its own worst enemy.
Blurples were fantastic not long ago and then COBS are the greatest, then QB's are king to everyone now purchasing strips.....
HID/HPS you get what they say it is, plug it in and apart from a bulb replacement every year or two replace when the ballast stops working...5 to 15 years later.
I just bought some strips and built a light for veg and I must say the guys selling fixtures are ripping people hard, some even double dipping with huge mark ups on postage were they can..

HID, LED, Plasma, CFL, Sun, they are work and they all have there place. All lights grow pot, grower talent grows great pot.

So anyone else find stalk weight different and what would that mean?

A DE 1000w Phillips bulb will retain 95% of its output after 1 year.

At $60 USD for a 1000w Eye Hortilux HPS, and even changing 2x a year is only $1200 in 10 years.

I get 4lbs+ from 1 crop 2x 1000w, at $200oz, is $6400 worth of weed. Add in $250 a month for 2 x 1000w on 12 hours, and 1 on 24. Say $800. 3 x 1000w all together

$60 x 3 bulb. $180 $250 Reflector/Ballast x 3 $950

$800 Electric
$950 Bulbs/Ballast/Reflector
$070 Promix BX
$1820
Say $2000

Still $3400 left over, and for some weed, $200/OZ is giving it away.

I could buy all new 1000w system every grow cycle, and if you can do 6 harvests a year, thats $20,000 worth of weed. After expenses. I get 6 in 378 days, with SSH. Been running this cut for 4 years. Been growing since 1972. 1977 indoors.
I wish i lived somewhere with electricity that cheap and bud that expensive that isn't realistic on the west coast.

Exactly.
Its the reason i posted in the first place. I had exactly the same experience as him.

I didnt need to worry about how i grow. Hps cant be beaten versatility wise either.
I could SOG. I could SCROG. I could stake. I could verticle grow, it doest matter. Decent yield either way.

you believe this is the time that all these same manu's been talking about for more than 10 years, the time when their promises wil actually be true now? If they cant get better now hopefully they get cheaper.

I'm just trying to tell you that I've pulled damn near a pound from a 350 actual watt blurple. So saying you pulled a pound from a 600w hps doesn't impress me, nor is it a good argument for hps over led. But whatever makes you happy
My post wasn't about gpw and I could careless about impressing you even though you may assume the world revolves around you. My post was about the size of the plant and about how I didn't have to spend two month scrog'n plants in order to get higher gpm. But whatever... bongsmilie

I didn't need to scrog to get those numbers either. Simple topping. 3 to 4 weeks of veg. Also, I think I must have done a poor job communicating if it seemed that I think anything revolves around me. I'm positive I matter just as little as everyone else does. I must apologize if it came off that way. What I'm absolutely sure of is that people have serious misconceptions about what it takes to get excellent yields from high quality LED.

I can't believe threads like this still exist and that they're exactly like they were 4 years ago.

If you grow in a tent, get cobs or quantum boards. If you grow in a warehouse or large basement, use 1000W HPS... Stalk size is based on PFFD and other environmental factors, not the source of the light.

You wait for these threads to die but in the end they never do.

Stalk thickness under led might be influenced by spectrum and photoreceptor over an hid.

As to those who think led outgrows hps, there will always be an hps grow here over the last ten years that yeilded more in the same time. Simply they are not better yet nor are they looking likely of being in the future.

Lastly i couldnt give a fuck what led growers are saying, been ignoring their bs for years now, if led was better there would be no competition, they still trying to compete...
