My brother has a 240 Watt that is about two years old, when he first got it he loved it but now he loves COBs, He said it is good for a blurpie but produced light airy buds, He have just light starved his plant since he is up to about 400 COB watts right now. I use Quantums and love them

What size space did he grow in?

Its expensive and not sure what diodes it uses. Not sure if its 900 real watts but It might be.
What space are you wanting to light up?

Edit, having looked further into it, its 540 real watts. Better lights with that wattage with better performance for cheaper.

I also use quantum boards and COBs.

I was going to use 4x4 tent.

I was going to use 4x4 tent.
so you could go with a HLG 550 or HLG 600 or 2x 265w kits ( which is what I have) also from HLG or from growerslights.com
All of those will genuinely give you the same amount of light as a 1000w HPS.
Other option is to build yourself a COB set up, but that requires slightly more work and a willingness to DIY.

I understand that it only draws 540 Watts. Isn't that the purpose of LED lighting? A 1200 watt light is going to draw less wattage and it still deliver the same intensity. I just don't understand everybody's theory behind the wattage of LED lights. A 60 watt LED light bulb for your house only draws 8 to 10 watts. Even though it is only drawing 8 to 10 watts it is still giving you the same outcome as if you were to put a regular 60 watt light bulb in a lamp. So what is the hype with the wattage I thought everybody knew that was the whole point of LEDs they burn less energy and give you the same output of light

That is the point of LEDs yes, but to get more light from a fixture the diodes have to be as efficient as possible.
For example a HPS might be 30% efficient and a super high efficient LED can be 60%, but a cheap LED made with old diodes like most of the ones on amazon and ran hard are not that efficient, they might be a percent or two more efficient than a HPS.
A household "60w" LED that is 8w is sure bright, but the "60w" they at claiming its equivalent to is an incandescent light bulb, which are incredibly inefficient. Much less than HPS.
That doesn't mean all LEDs are more efficient than a HPS. The reason i and others get hung up about the real wattage is because its an easy way get a rough idea of what it might perform like, not been much more efficient (if at all) than a HPS.
Plus its the tags like "1200w grow light" used on cheap lights or even expensive lights that mislead the consumer. What it means really is they have used 240 x 5w diodes, they just add them up so they can call it a 1200w, because that sounds better.
Then they tell you this unit only consumes 130w and is equal to a 600w hps and covers a 4x4 area, so again they are just making things up, since that is not possible with even the best diodes ran as soft as possible. All this leads to people been unhappy with the product and been able to say "yeah LEDs are a waste of time and grow shit weed". When that is not true.
A proper LED light company should tell you the diodes used and the umol/j , they need to do this these days due to the thousands of companies selling bull shit and lies.

I'm not familiar with the light you linked, but it has a few of those tell tail signs in what they do tell you about it and more in what they do not tell you. Just because they stick a high price tag on it doesn't mean its better than anything else. That said it might be a good light made from good component , but at that price I would want more info and I would want the best light possible.
That's why Quantum boards are so popular, the info is there, the price is fair, the performance can be seen either on here in many of the threads with people using them or on various forms of social media.
They are not the only company using those diodes, but they are a company that I can vouch for and so can half the members in the LED section on here.
You can also have a look at ChilLED who also make highly efficient lighting systems too.

If you put that light you linked in a 4x4, I'm sure it would light it up just fine, but when your spending $1000 you want more than just fine, otherwise you may as well put a 600hps in there and save 4/5th of your money and still have the same results.
You want I presume more light for your watt and thus more weight when you grow is completed.
There are plenty of ways to do this from the lights I linked or from making your own, which I may add is relatively easy to do.
There are a few advertisers on here who sell parts to DIY as well as pre made units. The same efficiency can be reached by putting in the time and effort to DIY. Personally having both DIY COBs and Quantum kits, if I had to buy again I would go with the Boards, but they were simply not available when I built my COB light. All of these options though would offer a better performance overall for less money.

Also on a side note, there is no reason to used mono diodes anymore, mixing blues and reds is not needed now we have white phosphor coated diodes delivering a mixed spectrum.

Anyhow, which ever direction your research takes you I hope you get some great grows out in the future. :bigjoint:

No. Not at all.

For that amount of money, OVER $1,100, all you're getting is the equivalent of about a 500 watt HPS. That's it. Considering you could buy the HPS for literally 15% the cost of that LED, it's a complete ripoff.

Then go by the G8 900.
