when you think about the huge leap in our current civilization (science wise) that only took say 150-200 yrs, it was preceded by explorations all over the earth funded by the wealthy in Europe, a major one was Egypt's old civilization, and many others on earth.
They uncovered treasures and Secrets, some of the secrets needed decoding so it took some time.
As a result we witnessed the sudden jump in science and other fields.

That's just my simple thinking trying to connect the dots.

Not all theories are based on fantasy. New evidence that changes proven scientific theory is found all the time. Trials are just what their name means.

You should have a look at the series 'Connections' with James Burke. There are sequels. Each episode is a lesson in the history of technology, from the ancient world to modern times.

After watching a season or so, I believe you'll come to realize that the increasing pace of change of technology is all but inevitable.
