The diodes are far apart compared to a cob. Also a lot more surface area. more than enough to stay cool at 35 watts with no heatsink. Would be a cool enough with heatsink at 50-100 watts passive
I am curious for the test results on these boards too. based on your data it seems datasheet/calculator give a good estimate.

For now I want to test splay heatsinks to see how much cooler it can run cobs.

like I said we will see some results , hopefully..............I'm excited about those splayed sinks too, faster you can take the heat load off the better. Future cob packages need some fancy thermal wafer tech to really push it forward ....

jumpin' Johosephats!!! @robincnn, one steps away to enjoy the work you guys put in to the cob revolution, and you,like technology,justa keep on progressing eh? Mad props to you. Almost glad I hadn't ordered the rest of my heatsinks from you yet,(still only need 5) it's just the benefits of what I've learned, and built thusfar has improved my "situation" immensly! Which has led to a bit of procrastination on my part. Will be back for yet another recommendation on sinks for my 4 x32v cree3590 @1400 mw .

Here is a shot of the some of the first sinks I purchased from you(as promised)p
they are housing 3070's

Do the holes already drilled into the SST XDIY heatsink also work with other Ledil reflectors? Or only the Angelina XW?

From description:
"Pre drilled for reflector adapter LEDiL C13584_CLAMP-VERO29 and LEDiL F13838_ANGELINA-XW (not included)"

DARPA does have them some carbon fiber nanotube heatsinks, although we cant go down to best buy quite yet and pick it up......

could you please post picture of the baseplate, i would like to see the different mounting holes postion of all 3 versions

Will run a 140mm vs splay test tomorrow. I want to let the thermal paste dry for a day.

Heavy Weight Passive championship


Vero 29 50V cob on SST 140 and SST X.
Test will be powered by HLG-320H-C2100.
110W watts max power at test.
Tc will not be measured as it is a pain to mount thermocouple on veros
Thermal reading will be take on the backside of heatsink opposite to COB with a IR thermal gun and thermocouple.

SST X is 846 Grams with COB mounted and wires soldered
SST 140 is 836 Grams with COB mounted and wires soldered

SST X OPTION 1 - Cree 3590
The Cree 3590 version was supposed to be 3590/ CLU058 version. However 1 hole is missing out of the 4 positions for CLU058 BJB holder.

SST X OPTION 2 - Vero29/Cree 3070/CLU048/V22/Vero18/Vero13/Zhaga 3 - 35mm
Compatible with Vero29/Cree 3070/CLU048/V22/Vero18/Vero13/Zhaga 3 - 35mm

Splaying process has been a pain. Takes too long to splay the pins. Splaying process makes heatsinks susceptible to scratches. Splayed pins bend easy and that makes anodization a little difficult. Now i know why splay designs not as popular.
I still like the splay heatsinks due to their performance vs weight . You will see in test tomorrow.

Already sold out on the splayed design!? Damn!
The SSTX stock right now is just a small 90pcs batch of samples. More SST X and SST 120 stock coming around 19th Nov.
SST X is slightly more expensive. There will have price break for 18 pcs and 50+pcs
SST 120 will have a price break for 30+ pcs
