Bushcrafting, the weed addition: Bugout patch

I did some midnight, moonlight transplanting this week. When I got back to the camp at 0130, I had a "bowl" of ice cream with fresh blueberries and {buried under the ice cream} a big piece of Blue Boy {my low sugar version of Blueberry Buckle} and a "bowl" of my smoke mix.

I'm not sure if I mentioned it or not, but a few weeks back I misplaced my folding pruning saw. I used it so much, I picked up another one. Yesterday I got out the big tractor and mowed the front yard. There is a dead oak limb with a hummingbird feeder hanging right in the way for mowing. Plus the big tractor won't go under the limb except in one direction. So I got out the folding saw and cut the limb, moving the feeder to a higher limb. When I got done, I opened up the tractor tool box to put the saw in. Guess what I found.

I could use a few, the way I lose things. I was surprised when I saw it in there. I had just known I'd left it at one of my patches. I was so sure that I had left the new saw red, so it would be easier to see in the woods.

A while back I had added a tarp to the side of my shelter and raised that whole side an inch or so to help with light leakage. It effected the drainage of the roof when there is really heavy rains. Yesterday we had one of those rains. I spent about an hour sweeping all the water out and raising up the ridgeline with a couple of posts/limbs I cut out of the brushpile out back. I look forward to the next heavy rain so I can see if the tighter roof will make a difference.

I used all my new bushcrafting toys, but my woods camera was left at work and it was still spitting rain when I was working on it. But the machete was faster than the trail folding saw {on seasoned oak saplings}, and the pruning saw was faster than the machete. There is a saw on the back of the machete, but you wouldn't want to use it unless you had to. Too slow.

It's just a 16X12 tarp for the roof, and then tarps for the walls and floor. Here is about half of it. {the part that had the drainage problem} I camped again last night, and got woke up with a big thunderstorm. It swelled up pretty big, but all of the water went outside.

Yesterday I got over to the DDW patch and put in three plants. It had been a good while since I was there and the trees had grown into my light. I cut a good sized yaupon, but it was so intertwined with grapevines and other tree tops, I couldn't pull it free. So I made a catch on it and pulled it as far away from the plant as I could. It pulled the tops of the trees a good 4-5 feet, giving me more sunlight on my plants.

Non-weed, non-bushcrafting subject, but years ago one of Mamma's friends gave me some palm nuts she had been saving for seeds, but she insisted I take this old lily that she had potted with muddy dirt. The damn thing weighed about 50 pounds, and I set it in the yard and didn't do anything to it for years at a time. Went out this morning for my after breakfast smoke, and it was blooming away. It must be liking the rain.

My buddy came through with a sack. My part was 14 grams for $65. Only had time to do a couple of one hitters, but seems to be alright. Not too many, but I saw a few good looking seeds. And since the 10th and 11th are good above ground planting days. . . .I am in the Sunshine State after all.

when shit is seeded here it is really fucking seeded you might get 500 seeds off a pack

Late 60s early 70s I was buying mexican brick weed wrapped in purdy paper for 125 a kilo. I would bet half of the weight was seed.

It's not bad tasting and it will get you high. But then with my taking 11 years off from smoking, I don't have the high tolerance I used to.

It has been compressed to the point of cracking a few of the seeds. But they are big pretty seeds. I didn't take the time to do a real smoke test, but I did smoke a bowl of it this morning in the garden. It was pretty toasted when I went to the BP patch to water up.
