Yeah, but it's not about that. Like I said, if they have nothing else, why give a shit? Their taste buds will tell them what comforts them best. What you're talking about is, and I don't mean this offensively, but in my opinion, equivalent to oppression. It's like saying "poor people shouldn't be able to have what they want, and should stay in the shelter they live in." Maybe that's not what you mean, and I don't mean you're intending that, but that's pretty close to what that adds up to.

It's a quality of life issue, and a damaged and unfulfilled mind can cause more damage than saturated fat.

I said exactly what I meant. Anything else is your own mind's creation.

Cheetos are comfort food? No, thats garbage and isn't helping them in anyway other than being unhealthy. How is a person suppose to pick themselves up and move up in the world when they are eating garbage? It changes mental and physical capabilities and makes that mountain even harder to climb. Why do that to someone who is all ready standing in a hole?

Why do you want poor people to be unhealthy? Does this give you some advantage over them in the world?

Are you familiar with Diabetes Type 1? Can you verify she doesn't have it? If not, then I can't say you're validated.

A friend is type 1, poor guy is a pin cushion.

He's also a gym partner of mine. Dude is a rock, better shape than most who walk through those doors. Just because his pancreas doesn't work doesn't mean he has to be unhealthy. Like he says, calories in calories out, anything else is an excuse.

Yeah? Does he have money to pay for insurance to see a doctor for insulin? Because I'll bet if he can afford a gym, he does.

In any case, just because you don't want someone to be able to have what they want to eat doesn't mean that's the way it should be. I'd say taste is a personal freedom of expression. It isn't about health when you're poor. When you're poor, you don't even know if you'll have a home by the end of the day. Or even be alive. Stop trying to control other peoples' lives and mind your own.

There are plenty of healthy nutritional foods that are very tasty. Like the produce isle has all these things they call "fruit" that are just fucking loaded with sugars and wild ass flavors to boot.

Again, soda pop and the like are not what ebt should be paying for. You want to destroy your body then use your own money to buy that crap.
I think the difference here is not what is best for you but deciding for somebody else what they can and can't have. I suppose you would play nanny and decide for them. Are you also supervising portions? Or how many times they eat their carrots? Did they balance their purchase of ground beef with an appropriate amount of vegetables? Should they only shop in the fresh food section and be prevented from buying canned vegetables which typically have too much salt? Where do you stop? My view: the people receiving assistance are adults, its their decision whether you agree with it or not.

Its not as if your people care anyway. A Republican administration famously managed to reclassify ketchup as a vegetable to cut costs in lunch programs.

What does being poor have to do with being able to read a label and know what you are shoving down your throat?

A gym is a dollar a day luxury, yes. Running up and down the road is still free for all. You dont need a golds gym to be healthy.

Excuses.

Who cares what poor people shove down their throat as long as they are HAPPY and ALIVE? "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of _________."

Well then, ice cream for all. Lets make them fat as fuck before we climb that mountain. Just makes it easier for those who know better.

I don't really get what you mean. Are you talking about the military? Because, yeah, that would suck, but that's why weight standards exist in the military. We're talking about civilian life. If they eat ice cream and are climbing a mountain, good for them, burn that shit off. But otherwise, I'm not sure what you mean.

The world is a strange place, the culture I see has changed from cooking food at home to going out to eat 4-7 nights a week.
And thats why America is fat. It isn't exercise, its nutrition. When you eat like shit, you feel like shit whether you realize it or not. People who truly eat healthy have crazy amounts of energy, and being active just goes along with it.

I got shit on here because the wife and I grind our own grains/process our own flour etc. Think someone said I was too poor to buy my own. Jokes on them. Our lifestyle has allowed my wife and I to be in great physical shape, and barring disease accidents etc we will easily stay this way our entire lives.

Maybe you should run for office. Head poobah of the nanny state. Another narcissist leader. LOL

Good for you that you take care of yourself. But you are still an ignoramus.

I guess my spinal injury is an excuse. This pisses me off. There are reasons exercise is a lot harder for me than other people, not excuses.
You don't know what other people go through.

I agree with you on this @Fogdog - we should not be dictating the fine detail of other people's lives, we cannot ever understand another person's life experience. The notion that one individual can decide what another individual is deserving of, in a specific way, is fucking ludicrous, creepy and flat wrong. I'm all for a touch more socialism, our social programs could use some work, but a nanny state ain't no good either.

The weirdest part about @spandy 's complaint is that his very own brand of government has done everything in its power to protect access to junk food in schools, even going so far as to classify ketchup as a vegetable so that french fries with ketchup counts as two vegetable servings in a subsidized school lunch program. They don't care about providing healthy food for kids that really need it, yet throw a conniption over somebody buying tater tots on EBT. Where jerks like Spandy are going is elimination of EBT, because "those people are wasting the money on soda". The reality that most people use EBT rationally and are better off for it. Fortunately, only two of the three branches of government are dominated by the GOP, and Obama isn't going to sign off on the elimination of food aid to the poor.

Organized criminal business enterprise in a "free market" capitalist system is the only moral choice, clearly. That was sarcasm, dark angry sarcasm.
