Rosin help please?

Hi,
I am new to the forums and this is my second thread. I tried to make rosin/rosin tech for the first time this evening and I would say I had mixed results. I had 2 types of buds in front of me to use. I had Candyland and it came back surprisingly well. I also had Birthday Cake strain which seemed very good to smoke as flower, but it did not come back at all- I mean nothing- no oil, no rosin- just a puck. So I am not sure if I was doing anything wrong- I was alternating between the strains so I did not do anything differently. And the Revlon iron I am using has temps starting at 310 and going up to 410. I used the 310 temp worked great for the Candyland, then when I saw that it was not working on the Birthday Cake I tried higher temps but that did not work either. Can I conclude that the Birthday Cake strain was not very good quality because of no return on rosin. What is the best temp for this? Any thoughts or ideas? Thank you- Ed

not necessarily bad quality, just not as full of trichs/resin to get out of it as the other stuff. also, moisture of the bud makes a difference in yield.

I also notice today that the rosin smells a bit "burnt". It does not smell unbelievably good although it is pretty potent. I think maybe 310 temp is too hot and I held the bud in the iron for too long. The bud was very dry to start with.

310 will require very short press time. Once it starts to steam a little, take a peak. You can press multiple times. For about $10 you can purchase a plug in dimmer that should allow you to run at lower temps which does better for flavor.

I have a perfectly nice strain that produces lousy rosin so strain can be good but just not for rosin. I also have some average strains that produce surprisingly good rosin.

If your buds are over dried, try steaming them for a second or two before pressing them. I find if I steam a dry bud and then pre-press it in a pollen press, I can then get very nice yields in the rosin press with little broken leaf.
