Hate to bust your guys chops but the CXB 3590 is 6% more efficient than the 3070's and 72v and 36v are almost the same only difference is if you want more light from a cob you'll need 72v if you want to run them at 100watt per cob easily.

Hi robincnn,

At 1.4Amps

Looking at the numbers on previous page for 3500K
3070 BB 50.77%
3590 CD 56.34%
Difference = 56.34% - 50.77% =5.57%
(56.34 - 50.77)/50.77%
Which gives 3590 has10.95% higher efficiency than 3070

However for 5000K Veg charts on previous page
3070 BB 54.68%
3590 CD 56.34%
Difference =1.66%
(56.34 - 54.6)/54.68
Which gives 3590 has 3.03% higher efficiency than 3070
Why would you compare them at equal wattage ?

imo a more logical way to compare would be with price, at same efficiency.
Price including lenses and holder ; using KB prices and PCT :

4 CXB3070 BB @ 1050mA vs 3 CXB3590 CD 72V @700mA

The total difference is < 1W, and ~1lm/W, and just about the same price ...all in favor of the 3590.
And it seems like there is general concencus that 3590's gain more efficiency when dimmed down, although PCT doesn't give us numbers < 49W

On the other hand, 3070's do have the advantage of more point sources.

This makes it a much closer call imo.

Thoughts anyone ?

No one said they weren't more efficient. My statement still stands.

The BB bin and all below...are more like half bins if comparing to/with the 3590. They are 500lm ranges...as where most of the bins the 3590 come in are 1000lm ranges. So max and min performance are more variable. And is where that 5K 3070 closes the gap more when it breaks into the CB bin and up.

The 72v and 36v 3590 are the same. No difference in performance per dissipation.

They are the same die...but more of them in 3590 vs 3070. It would be like taking (30 xte's pulling 50w) vs (50 xte's pulling 50w). More of the same is always going to be more efficient...but there will be a cost to that gain. Choices the builder must make. But watt for watt...will not be a night and day difference. But what do I know.

Well actually, I am, kindda ..

my point was that it's a much closer call than what robincnn eg makes it look like when using price as a basis for comparison.

Never said 72V and 36V differed in performance per dissipation ... just used the 72V@700mA as an example, 36V@1400mA would be the same of course ...

Wasn't questioning your statement either ...

What you smoking today ? I'll have the same please ;)

Just realized, maybe you're not even talking to me lol :bigjoint:

:peace:

Yes there is if 36v @1.4amps= 49.819watts for the cxb3070 and 48.77watts for the cxb3590 but the 72v cxb3590 @1.4amps= 112.01watts so there is a performance difference that's all I'm saying when it comes running them harder. I've been speaking with Supra about this subject and I have not yet tried to run 72v @1.4amps but I will when it cools down. I live in the San Fernando Valley and today will be 95F lol

You too must be smoking some good stuff today :leaf:

the key words in GG's statement were "per dissipation" ie at equal wattage ;)

But it's not the same with 72v you have to run them even softer than 36v for them to perform the same. All I was stating is if you don't care about Efficiency and want more watts use 72v at higher amps less cobs you have to buy.

Running lower current doesn't mean your running softer. Running lower dissipation wattage is running soft.

@EfficientWatt it wasn't direct at you/solely at you. So not sure what you smokeing.indont even think you comment was posted whenninwas typing.

EDIT
3590 72v at 1440ma run just fine.

I know but the heat it will dissipate and I don't run AC what so ever and I'm smoking Thin Mint Cookies

Why would you compare them at equal wattage ?
As per my cheat sheet i was planning on using HLG-185 with 3070 or 3590
I started my design with power supply and not the efficiency so seems reasonable to me. At a given power level what cob(in Jerrys stock) can give me the best output for best price.
I like your approach to comparing at constant efficiency too. But it is easier for me to process when i hear '3590 has 10.95% higher efficiency than 3070 at 3500K at a given power level.
Now when i include heatsink, optics and power supply cost, the price difference of 3590 may not be as bad anymore.

I get my drivers for $55.20 lol HLG-185H-C700A or Cxxx from Sager Powergate lol

Hello
Did anyone of you have ordered anything from KB to Europe?
How is it with the tax and duty?
I am from eastern europe and in my country is 23% tax SO when i must add tax and duty its no longer good deal.

IDK which country you're from (PL, right?) but in my country, packages shipped with the Chinese Post can usually avoid taxes by declaring smaller value than it really is. While it's not that good deal when paying 23% tax you should pay it as well when ordering from Mouser or Digikey.

Yes but someone here on Riu have wrote that theres no more China post shipping by Jerry and onother thing that when package will be stoped and i will declar smaller value than iam done :(

Bonjour
I ordered from France with china post option...2 weeks(18days) after it was in my mailbox...thats it!
I mailed Jerry about china post option...he said that he had problems with china post...and that he had to give money back to many people...because they don't get their orders..........!!!! I received my cxb in my mailbox...no signature...easy to said I never saw it! (I am not this kind of person! !)
So now, thanks to all the assholes, it is at your own risk if you want to pay 10 $ and be 90% sure to avoid v.a.t...if you don't get it, he will not refund you...
Every time a Chinese seller send me something...I get it...sometimes it takes times but I always have it!
Have a great day ★
