Rejuvenating your mommas

Looking for some input here...
I was told that taking a clone from an old indoor momma and planting it outside would " rejuvenate" it.
Anyone have experience or thoughts on this?

there are other factors to consider like full spectrum nutrition and having the right vibe.. a clone is constantly mutating.. there are over 250 limb sport mutations of the red delicious apple..

imo if your clone has lost its gusto you are done for that clone, how many yrs have you been running it?

I've been running it for a couple years....and it's not that it has lost its gusto, more like what buddy said sounded like it would help keep it strong and healthy.

Chop off the top of the plant and force the lower half of the plant to produce shoots.
These shoots are supposed to be original DNA or as close as the plant was at its original health.
Over time plants will change its aspects due to its environment. Shit enviro makes for.shit plants..and so on...
The new growth is what you want... from down below...not what grows at the top.
No not the shit little sad growth that is there. YOu want new strong shoots
Just what I've heard on more than one occasion
Hope that helps/

Take a look at tissue culture. Apparently it brings back vigor and you get back the DNA you originally had; free of mutations, and resistant to disease

I don't get how people's clones lose quality traits over time. Isn't a clone technically the same dna as the mother, hence the name clone? I kept a cutting for over 12 years once and was as good then as it was the first time I tried it. I could see environmental issues making it appear like it's losing qualities but do clones really lose qualities or change dna on their own?

That's why I started this thread. I was / am scratching my head.

Maybe your set up needs revamping? Now that it's getting nice outside could your temperatures perhaps be creeping up? How old are your bulbs? maybe a insect issue you never noticed?

I'm not saying I have a problem....buddy just suggested doing this because he says it is a good proactive thing to do.

The deterioration of clone genetics is a myth imo.
Indoor growers have been arguing about this forever.
15 or more yrs ago everyone kept huge mothers because everyone said u cant clone a clone more than three times without losing its vigor.
High times and other mags published this for years but i think they have now changed their stance on it aswell.
The name clone should say it all. If its a healthy clone it should be 100% the same as its mother.

I agree with flash putting it outside is asking for trouble not gonna help stabilize its genetics.

I wonder if what some people claim as their genetics mutating or getting weaker is really just their personal tolerance to said strain just getting higher.

plant environment determines the plants growth.
If the plant grows like shit, over time it will CHANGE to over come its shit environment in order for it to survive.
Different traits for different environments. Simple stuff.
Someone once said no matter what we do to the plant it will always change back to what its needs the most.
This is a known fact about plants and how nature deals with issues.
That is why they say to try and force new growth from down the plant because it hold the original traits,,,,, I don't know how exactly...but that's the thought behind it.

sucks loosing the good ones.. :)

if i can chime in
my clones are fine..but i find because my lack of veg space; i have to clone them so often (no mothers, just clone the clone when it gets too tall) they seem to get thinner and thinner stalks.

i'm going to try this this season too.
its something i read shanti post about a while back, just never tried it.. always been my motto outdoor stays outside, indoor stays inside. (ever since i got pm inside; i'm very timid)
but a few of mine have pathetically spindly stalks now, so i'm going to try taking some cuts from plants outside in the sun.. see if there's any change. *i imagine they'll eventually get thinner and thinner, but this will atleast give a temporary boost, maybe?
we'll see ;)

as for top or bottom clones; most have said take bottoms for years.. i really can't with my limitations. so been cloning tops.. and have great success.. most you hear on top Vs bottom clones is BS IMO

Not sure about rejuvenation, but I like to keep my moms and any plant as healthy as possible.
If the sun is available I use it, as the difference is noticeable.
