I was just about to go into town, and my car wont start :O

Its a 2008 chevy impala.

Its been sitting in the driveway, hasnt been on since sunday, in freezing weather. Ive been meaning to put anti freeze, i bought it, just never got around to pouring it in :(.

I wonder if thats why its not starting?

when i turn the key, the light come on, and its not cranking, but i can hear it just barely trying to crank. almost cant even hear it.

Also, i hit a curb pretty hard about a week ago. I didnt notice any leaks or anything and drove it a few times since with no problems. im not sure if that has anything to do with anything..

So I just probably need a new battery soon? I dont think i have a charger, but i think i have jumper cables and my wife will be home later with her car. Hopefully i can jump start it and have a few more trips out of it?
If I would have put anti freeze in there, would the battery still be messed up now? And i guess i should probably clean out my garage and start parking in there :(

Just move to California. We don't have those problems here!

I once had a piece of shit car i was tryinbg to get as much out of and not spending anything on it (for scrapage scheme). The fucker would hyeat up due to a hole or whatever in the pipe of the radiator system. I had the clever idea of putting cumin seeds in the deposit and slowly get water in there, guess what it fucking worked! Not for too long though but it worked!
So man just try some cumin you never know!

If it wont crank, Turn on headlights, step on bake, honk the horn. If the horn sounds fine, with headlights and brake lights on, you got juice. if not, battery dead. With juice,...starter solenoid frozen, pour hot water on it. Battery dead means old battery (3-5yrs.) or generator not charging it anymore or is alternating by the usage. When we call the generator an alternator,...it`s time to change it.

If you don`t put anti freeze in it, cold will freeze the water and brake the pump, block, seals, hoses, radiator, heater core, and there goes the car to the scrap yard.

Trade cars with your wife. Unless she is the bread winner which I think may be the case. Just sayin.

Almost sounds like what happened my sisters boyfriend a few years ago. I told him in may to change out the radiator hose on his little hatch back (it was leaking) and fill it up with anti freeze/distilled water because the water around here is hard as fuck and would rust it out. He never changed the hose and just kept filling the radiator from the tap.

Then in the middle of January he says his car won't start. I go take a look and it's obvious the block is cracked and his excuse was he wasn't expecting it to freeze so soon.

It was almost February, when the fuck did he expect it to get cold?

He didn't have money to buy a new hose either he said. He did have enough to get a Wii, xbox 360, new TV, computer, stereo system for the car, etc., etc. in that time frame but not enough for a cheap radiator hose to keep their only vehicle on the road.

Sorry i ended up getting stuck on the phone with my dad, and then a little side track from a puppy lol..
I just poured in the anti freeze. It looked low i guess, but not frozen. The battery has lots of crud caked on it pretty good. Im going to wait till tomorrow when its a little warmer and take it out and clean it up real good. And if that doesnt help, then ill try jumper cables. im just gonna get really baked now

battery corrosion needs cleaned than get ya a spray can or gel of battery terminal junk… it'll slow the rate of crud building back up. In my experience it won't completely stop it but will greatly reduce amount of build up.

Dude! You ARE new. Leave the built up crud on the battery. It insulates it. It's like a patina.

Look under your car for the freeze plugs

It looks kinda like hash.. i Wonder how it smokes?

I mean, ive delt with battery crust a few times. Ive never had it get so bad to where it causes problems.
I moved from Texas to a place that gets much colder. I didnt even know extreme cold was bad for the battery...

If the battery was in a very low voltage state and the electrolyte actually froze, it will distort the plates & short out the battery.
The good news is there is a really easy fix for that.

Replace the battery.

Yeah, probably. Extreme cold is very bad on batteries. When it hits 30ish you need to disconnect it and bring it inside.
