Obama found another war to fight

The war on Ebola...

Yes, you heard it here folks. Obama has decided to send 3000 US troops to build hospitals to fight the Ebola outbreak.

Is this what our military is supposed to do? Why are we risking the lives of 3000 US service members in this way? They keep telling us that the virus isnt that deadly yet there are over 5000 cases right now in Africa and even the doctors going over there are catching it.

Do you support this use of the military??

Very few (if any) of the military are trained for that kind of work. Terrorists and bandits are common. There will be deaths among the troops, both from violence and disease. The bandits are robbing hospitals and burial parties. Probably resulting in their own deaths from Ebola. Our servicemen signed up to serve, and possibly die, for their country. Not to contract some horrible fatal disease serving non-Americans. Once again, Obama's "charity" bill is being paid by someone else. This is another example of Obama's total disrespect for the military.

The military doesn't build hospitals, so that part isn't true. The military is there to prevent US assets from being harmed. They will be there to wage "Combat" on the virus, which means they will be killing people that have the virus and are rioting.

Ebola is no joke.

If I was POTUS, I'd gather subject matter experts on that nasty shit and determine the threat level the unchecked epidemic posed on us as a nation, and if deemed significant enough, I'd send in a military task force to squash it before it got completely out of hand.

The longer that shit goes, the greater the potential for it to mutate and get worse, the greater the chance to escape Africa, the greater the chance for some asshole to grab some and try to weaponize it in some way. It's not our job to baby-sit any nation, but those dumb assess over there aren't going to stop that shit, and it needs to be stopped as soon as possible IMO.

If the UN is good for anything, this would be it.
Send UN doctors and nurses, let other countries join in the plight, they also have a peace keeping military just for these kinds of purposes.

What is your proposed strategy NLXSK1? Do you think it will all go away if we just ignore it? Do you have any understanding of how highly contagious viruses are contained? Why do you automatically assume that the only thing the US military is good for is shooting things and blowing things up? Who do you think saves soldiers when the shit hits the fan? Who do you think operates field hospitals? The military. Thats who.

The United States is not immune from an ebola outbreak. Military personnel have volunteered to defend their country from ALL threats, not just brown people with guns.

I'd go with the "Outbreak" solution and just start dropping "fuel-air bombs".

It's not like you're dropping them on somewhere like Switzerland...

Military personnel in the USA swear an oath to defend their countries constitution. The USA's constitution doesn't permit a standing army, so how is it that an army is being sent to Africa? Isn't that unconstitutional?

I'll wager most military personnel are on a par with cops when it comes to "defending the constitution"...in other words they are anonymous mercenary henchman / dupes.

^ I get aggravated whenever I see people label soldiers as "heroes". There are "hero" soldiers and there are also pieces of SHIT. Just because they joined a branch of service in no way makes them anything other than someone who joined the military.
Yep, I fucking hate when people call me a hero because of my service, or thank me for my service. I don't deserve that. They are thanking me for killing brown people in essence. WTF?

The overwhelming majority of those I saw in service treated it like little more than a welfare in uniform program.

The volunteer units had more people that actually gave a fuck, but the conventional units, and especially their leadership, pretty much sucked.

Lots of people join the military when they feel that they have no other options. I feel that it is a great trade. Serving your country in exchange for compensation and benefits. My father grew up poor and would never have been able to afford college had he not joined the navy. It would be nice if everyone joined for altruistic reasons, but thats not the world we live in.

There have been many unpopular uses of the military in the past few decades and because of this, the armed forces have started to get a bad reputation. Contrary to conspiracy theories, the military doesn't decide which wars to fight. They do what they are told. I agree that the president (no matter who he is) should not be able to start a war without the permission of the people. He should have to plead his case and hope we vote in his favor.

But then all power would lie in the hands of the media. The public are sheep. Technically, the president can't declare war. Congress (the voice of the people) must grant him the authority to use force.

Yeah I suppose you're right. Congress usually also has access to information that the general public doesn't.
