if you can only but lights at walmart get the CFLs they are the only ones that will work right but if you can somewhere get an MH light. it is the best for veg. and an HPS light is the best for flowering. i just bought my MH light only 200 bucks from the local hydro store. its awesome

can you get the lights off the internet? There are many good sites to get light. A good light is probably the most important part of growing. You need a good light to get good but and resin. <-period

no Home Depot or Lowes? they both have MH and HPS lights... look in the security lighting area.

Metal Halide for veg.
High Pressure Sodium for flower.

if you only have Wally World you are boned unless you have a big one. my local Wally World has shit for CFL's even.

if you must use CFL's though, you want daylight for veg and warm light for flower... also known as "normal" CFLs for veg and bathroom/kitchen CFLs for flower.

get as many as you can afford and fit in your grow of as high of wattage as possible... plan on getting more. and more. and more. ;)

Do not go steal a light. What is wrong with all you people who want to go steal stuff? You people that go and steal street lights are the reason stoners have a bad name. What happens if you were to get busted and you had the street light they have been looking for from down the street, then they say oh damn stoners always causin trouble. Stop stealing stuff get a job and drive somewhere close that sells the lights and buy them with money not a five finger discount!

thats right gibbz,
also you probably dont want to go for the home depot hps because they dont have enough of the blue spectrum as the grow lights you would find online

im not sure the exact spectrums, but i do know that the yield i have gotton from one of them home depot ones, compared to the one i got off htgardensuppy was a lot less, maybe a half ounce to an ounce,

experience counts!

i think they would work better than CFL though... what do you think?

honestly i dont really like cfls, too many dam lights too hassle with, one good quality light that i know will get the job done is good enough for me
yes i think it would be better than cfl

i use CFLs right now and hate them for the reasons you said. but i live in such a small town that the post master knows my address when i go to the PO better than i do :o

having something shipped in a hydro shop's packaging *really* makes me nervous.

thanks for your opinions!

:blsmoke:ahh i see, do you have any local hydro shops near you? might be a bit more expensive but worth it for security reasons, also ebay is a good way to deal with that, some people have light they are getting rid of, it will come in a box with their name on it so there are no worrys, unless you buy from a seller thats name has hydro or anything in it:mrgreen::blsmoke:

the nearest hydro shop is about an hour away... my grow will only take low wattage due to space, so i was contemplating getting a couple small HPS and a couple small MH bulbs to use in it... and getting rid of the 20 some odd CFLs i have going :p

maybe i can get a nursery in another town to order some in for me at a reasonable markup.

ahhh yes then you may want to go with the 150 watters
i guess if you kept it small and flowered early you could use a 400 watter.

Regarding buying online from hydro stores and having it shipped...

Marijuana is what keeps virtually all hydro stores in business. I recently ordered some special supplements not available at my local store online. The three bottles were shipped separately from three different stores. All of them came in plain white boxes shipped either USPS or UPS and are totally discreet. Even the return labels on them, ALL THREE, have somebody's name and phone number on the label and the initials of the company underneath (example return label on packaging- Tony, phone number, HTG [for htgardensupply], address). I even used paypal to pay for the order, so the only thing that shows up on my bank statement is $XX.XX instant transfer paypal.com. Like I said, there's no way anyone could possibly know what's inside, short of opening your package illegally. There's even a crazy amount of tape on the packages which I assume would make it obvious if anyone tampered with it.

MH for veg, HPS for flower
