pot size/plant size?

I am a bit new to auto flowers. I got some seeds fr a friend of some loyryder chronic.. I out one in a 3 gal pot and left it on my deck to see if it would flower in northern Canada and be able to finish before frost.. it seems to be on time and is about 4 weeks into flower as of today...

My question is.. is there a limit to the size of pot I can put them in? Like would a giant 75L Rubbermaid be to big for one plant.. or would it actually grow to fit that space?

definitely limits to autos, they will be stunted by varied pot sizes but once they hit a certain genetically predetermined height and age they will begin to flower so breeders usually have the size of autos listed under strain specs.
people usually use 3-5 gallon pots with autos anymore and its a waste any less and you diminish your yields

Also, diminishing returns on going bigger in pot size. I would say going over 10 gallons might be a little of a waste. But as bf said, 3-5 is a pretty nice spot. Would love to see it though? One thing about autos is it it best to start them in their final pot.

I know to not transfer them from one to another.. so would it be wise to keep 2 in one 75l Rubbermaid or have each in its own 5 gal?

So most autos the biggest is 5 gal.. they won't use any more than that?.. unless its a sativa cross of some kind I suppose?

try one of each :) outside, i bet that 75l could produce a dandy. And then run a 5 gallon next to it and compare the grow. then post pics so i can see. but io never like 2 plants in one pot. i would rather just run 2 gallons over 2 in the 75l

Its going to be hydro and indoors its way to close to winter to start plants outside.. probably be -40 c come mid sept.. I live very very far north..

Quick question for the auto pros. My autos that I cross pineapple express / star Ryder finish at a little over 2ft in soil. I run them in 1 gallon pots. Yield is usually 10 grams a plant all CFL's. Let me know if this is a bad idea...I'm thinking 3 auto plants..one 3 gallons pots which equals to 1 gallon a plant, but all in the same pot. I have space issue is the reason I am asking. Thanks

You can use a big pot, and I recommend it but only if you have a little experience watering. Its easy to overwater early in a big pot and underwater late when they get huge. I like 15gal fabric pots, they are about as big as I go, since moving pots much larger is a pain. Last auto in a 15 gal, 8oz dried and cured.

so an auto will grow to the pot you put it in.. just not as much as a photo strain...then agian i guess its based on strain itself.. i can see a sativa crossed auto getting a fair bit larger than a kush crossed or something.. so 1/2 lb off one plant in a 15 gal.. what the avg yield in a 5 gal with an avg auto?

just switched up from 2gal pots to 4gal pots running auto whitewidow and they are more than double the size of my last plants some are almost 5ft tall with a month left compared to barely 3 when they were done so go at least 4gal if u have the room it really will make a huge difference.

I recently switched from 2 gallon to 3 gallon pots and I have noticed a HUGE difference in plant size.. Im sure some of it is genetics, but my Dinafem White Widow XXL's are WAYYY bigger (almost 3 feet tall) than my 2 gallon Blue Mammoths.. (2 feet max)IMG_20140813_164034_667.jpg IMG_20140813_164047_361.jpg

its more along the lines of it growing to its maximum potential
if the roots are allowed a stress free environment to stretch to its full genetic potential then you have maximum yield
you dont really know what any of the strains will do unless you try
ALOT.... and i do mean alot ( like almost all of what judges ) of how big the plant gets is determined by how it was watered in its first month
auto's roots will steer clear of waterlogged area's of the pot so if you grow in a 5 gal or larger and the bottom 2 gal's are soaking wet and stay that way the roots will never go down there
and then in flower if you are not watering enough to support the larger root system then your plant is not going to yield like it would if it was perfect from the start
" dialed in " is what a auto needs to be from day 1 to hit it's maximum

****** EDIT what holyghost said +1

well said this is my fourth run with these auto ww and everytime they grow larger and I yield more. U have to know ur plant and what they like and dislike.

You gotta pic of that?
The above link should go to the page I posted a couple pics, never really took anymore, started in super soil 15g fabric pot organic grow using teas, lighting was a 400w mh then a 600w hps added about a month later. Also have 3 more auto yet to finish in days that wont near match what that auto did. Im pretty new and very impressed with this strain, wish I could order a pack, if all 4 plant I had were like that...would have been nice. But these are finishing up good now too.

I have a himalayan blue diesel that's 37 inches on a 1 gallon air pot. Just up-potted to a 3 gallon air pot. There's still about 5 weeks left
