My Dilema ~ Any Input/Advice is Appreciated

Im wanting to start growing as soon as I get a place of my own, but the problem is Im gone for half the week for work. Gone as in not at my house at all for 3-5 days depending on my schedule. I know these plants need looking after to maintain health and all of that good stuff, so my question is this:

Can someone who isnt home every night still grow? I know some things, like lights, can be ran off of a timer, but I havent looked into enough to know the ins and outs.



I would only be growing for personal use. Not looking to make profit or anything like that. I have a decent job in the medical field and Im just trying to cut down on my own personal consumption cost.



Anyone got any advice on set-ups or whether or not this is even achievable??

personally i like the first one .............u set a bucket up (home depot bucket) add in a air stone so the water is highly oxygenated (make sure u put the air stone on the other side of the bucket .....not near the pump) ..............then u run the lines to the planters (30 secs equals 1/2 a cup per line) .......oh keep one of the ports open so air can get in line (if u close them all the bucket will siphon out )

u set the timer up for what period of growth u are in ..set in the tubes to feed (runs off batteries 4 double As)......the soil has all the power in it so u do not need to feed it

just get a camrea system that u can access using a smartphone

u can set it up so it calls u if anyone opens a door or window or it detects motion


your shit is safe u can check in on it any time ........if anyone goes in area it calls u ...it waters it for u and the feed is already in the pot .........the only thing u need to do is add water to the bucket and change the light bulbs/timing when it is time

I just need someone to take me under their wing until I get the basic hang of it and then I can venture off and try little things on my own.

Question about that security system. I live in a state where its illegal still. So, I dont know if having that kind of information on a cell phone would be a good idea....? Maybe if I had a trac phone where nothing would be registered in my name, but cultivation is a felony and so Im going to be AS exclusive and secretive as I possibly can be. ask any ?s u got ..............the info i told u will make it easy for u to get something with u being away ................the other systems and feeds they cost much more and require u to be there and check it mix up the food then give it in the watering ...........untill u are home every day that info i linked u is your best choice .................if u want it really really easy get a auto strain set the timer on 20 hours on 4 hours off (depending on the strain u pick 120 grams max is a 3 gallon soil bag planter anything above 120 use a 5 or 7 gallon soil bag planter )

just doing it is 20 years and they have the choice to charge me with 1 year more for each peice of equipment i have for growing it (i buy boxes of 500 pipettes at a time ) so i am looking at life not counting the weapons plus the moonshine and the stealing files from the internet ................the system calls what ever number u program into it ...........it just needs a land line phone jack .......they have models that will work on GSM (cellphone and landline) u can program up to 5 numbers it will call the first one play a 10 sec msg then hang up call the next one...................no cops no alarm system calls u

the system is on radio and has a battery back up ...................meaning it works with burst transmissions only when it detects motion or the seal is broken does a singal go out so nothing solid or steady to tip anyone off by the time they can detect it it has already gone off ..........the battery is incase the power is cut it will still work for 5 hours and call u .........the senors are burst so they are battery and last a long time

the msg is what ever u want to make ...............the number that is calling is your house /place phone number ...........u can set up to 4 zones of protection it will all send the smae alert but the center thing will tell u a number and that is where it was triggered.........(i learned about this from a father that uses it to keep his kids in the house at night )

Yep.. I do it all the time... I work remote in locations all the time. Even when I'm home my flowering rooms are far away from me.

I run hydro, for plants running under HID, I calculate 10 gallons minimum in DWC, for each plant. Bigger tanks = Less problems.
If you're running unattended soil.. I suggest bluemats, however I have never run them personally. On one grow I used to have a float to fill my tank however, it tends to cause a rise in PH over time. I'd rather it go low than high. Find a PH stable nutrient.

I run nutes light, they tend to use water more than nutrients anways. Late/Mid flower is when you really gotta be around.. most of the time its just kinda boring..

I always test run my equipment, Since I run multiple ballasts, heaters, etc.. I gotta make sure they dont overlap and trip a breaker.

Use a non contact IR thermometer to check for hotspots, etc... I always make sure everything is running right, check ballast temps, cannopy temps, etc.. Check things when they are running like co2 burners make sure they wont cause a fire.. etc..

Make sure stuff wont fall down.. plants need support, make sure ducts wont blow off.. etc.. Just kinda imagine what would happen if something like a duct fell off... well check the connection and put some kind of secondary restraint.

This goes with water or tanks.. expect a leak. I just had a bucket clog on me the other day, roots totally blocked off the return line.. anyways. IF water does leak.. make it so it can be contained or its not a big deal. For me, I just lost some nutrients.. bummer.

Also.. find a thermometer that records highs and lows.. very important for troubleshooting..

I prefer physical security and camoflage vs. Remote viewing... My rooms are under lock and key and are in a secure area.

the last part u need is a carbon filter and a fan .............just pick anyone u like they sell matched sets

as for where to grow it if u can it is best to have own room with own ac .............this means smoke and all that other crap is not in the air so the plants do a little better ...............u can set it up in the same room as u just know that fan is always running even when the lights are off the fan still runs

if u do go for your room or some common area .......build a intake filter box ................that will clear out all the nasty bad stuff for the plants aslong as u get a lvl 10 filter

as for how many to grow

3 plants ...............the least amount u shoudl get from LED and super soil is 1 oz and that is if u fuck up everything everyday ..........now if oes what it should u are looking at 3 oz to 5 oz per plant

that is a auto flowering smokable in 72/75 days normally with u running 3 of them means atleast 3 oz so that is 3 months of time by then u should have pulled in a second set or even 3rd set of plants

just plant them 3 a month so u pull in once a month .............when your skills get better u can lower the number of plants if u have to much surplus .....by the end u should be growning 1 plant a month and make from 4 to 8 oz ......depends on the strain

I'm hardcore DIY, modified dressers, closets, etc.. But I do like the tents, the only downside is the price. And to be honest, its not that bad, if you break down the price/time to build or modify. I think you can have a fully functional tent operational soil grow in 12 hours.
Now the reflective coating of these tents are another advantage.

Now the tent if in a closet would work great, its can be locked up, and is out of plain view.

Now as far as yield, I would run something like 1 mom, and run 400W HID, in a perpetual sog, under 2 E&F tables, 2 week rotation.
however this is more of a hassle for somebody like me always on the road. With everything on a different timing its a hassle. I'm sure it can be done but I cant wrap my mind around the logistics of it.

I personally like the big harvest idea, this will take the hassle out of keeping a grow. Other than keeping a mom and clones around, and go with a 1kw ballast, if you buy a solis tek ballast you can split it to dual 600's or mixed HPS/MH or just 1 kw.

Something to also think about, I usually dont like to grow indoors in a house during summer, literally just heats up the house and the added humidity makes it uncomfortable. I'll usually move my ops to outdoors in sheds or other structures. So what I like to do is move back indoors when its cold outside and I can use waste heat. I dont know what your climate is like, but I would consider the indoor option when things cool off a bit.

3 is a safe number...........odds are one of them will do well so if u keep notes ...............u do not know how big they will get or anything if u put to many in u could choke yourself out and get a few plants under what they should have been

during the early stages of growth as long as your running at least a 5 gal plastic container you shouldnt need to water untill you get back as long as your room is not hot. (if your going to be away you want to make sure temps are in check anyways, also invest in one of these )

later stages of growth 5 days may be a bit much....make yourself a autoo waterer out of a 2 liter soda bottle and water good before you leave and you should be fine, most of the time as long as you water really good before you leave the plant can go 5 days in all stages but better safe than sorry.

you can clone just bout anything at anytime I've proven that with my tangerine haze that i cloned the day i harvested it.. i ripped off the flowers and cut her at angle put my saliva on end no root hormone just good ol spit and in 2 weeks time bam roots 3 weeks tons of roots and new growth now its 3 feet tall and has more bud sites than the crappy lil one i got in colorado.. its in the tent single bucket

Its not recommended to do anything to autos.
Cloning them is dumb because the clone is just as far along as the rest of the plant. No one clones those for that reason.
If i were you tho i would get one big ass tote. As large as you can fit into your tent or grow area.
Cut six holes in the lid for baskets. I would try to eventually work it so that you add two plants while cutting two plants and keep it constantly going.
Autos yield for shit so it should work out to be in your opimium number range.
Using the totes with an air stone as someone mentioned earlier is the fastest easiest way and you dont have to constantly buy and prep or toss dirt.

Auto flowers are not a Clonable with any real results.........it just much easier to grow it from a seed the point on clone is to get the same strain and to decrease the amount of time it takes to get large amounts.............but auto flowering already does it the longest i have ever had go was 110 days .........that is barely enough time to do one 1 photo run month of growth 2 months of flowering

if the auto is longer then 60 days u can SCRoG it .....even some of the 60 days if they are tall enough

u..............i would pick a few strains that sound good to u .......then grow one at a time using different exps to dail in the strain (if u like the taste and effect u can improve skills on that plant .....if not u can pass those seeds off to a buddy and start your next strain use the know how u pick up and keep going until u get all the right tweaks plus find your steady strain )

Whats a good basic rule of thumb (if there is one) on lighting? Specifically the lighting for a DR120 or DR150.

Im, not positive on the closest space Ill have to work with, because Im still lookin at houses, but assuming both will fit fine, which should I go with?
I know different strains vary in size, but how many plants can each of these hold? (Guesstimation) Is the DR150 worth the extra money?

Im not Mr Money Bags over here, but I dont wanna get something just because its cheaper, unless its not gonna matter.
