Noob, need "idiots guide to nutes" lol.

Alright well I'm new here, and to growing.

I currently have two "Sour Kush" plants on their 8th day of veg.

I know I'm going to need to start nutrients within the next week or so.

Problems is I'm friggen stumped to say the least. I've been trying to research it and get an understanding of everything but nothing I can find is "noob friendly".

I'm pretty much looking for a break down of exactly what I'd need to buy and how to measure/mix the different parts.

I have a few hydroponics stores somewhat local to me. Do they sell premixed stuff for soil growing? If so any recommendations for a first time grower?

Or if I go to a local plant supply store, what's the cheapest and easiest stuff to buy? What's necessity? I understand they need NPk. But how much?

Yeah, I'm lost lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Well that's simply not true. I ran my very first runs in NFT and now I'm in soilless for the flexibility. Unlike soil if I am an an overfeed situation I simply give them tap water and that resolves. If there's a pH problem that is easy to resolve as well. The reason I like hydro as a newbie was the flexibility. I did not know the plant well enough, then, to figure out a mix that would take me most of the way through then try to figure out what particular nutrient I was missing. Just too complex at first.

I'm just beginning to think about trying soil. But for the newest of the new unless they have green thumbs and experience growing house plants I highly recommend starting with:
Advanced Sunshine Mix #4
Dyna Gro Foliage Pro
Dyna Gro Protekt
Botanicare Cal/Mag Plus

Easy peasy all the way through flower with almost everything except my last run of C99's and they required 50% General Hydroponics Flora Gro and 50% Dyna Gro Bloom (because that was what I had on hand). My first nutrients were all General Hydroponics and I was quite happy with them (the Flora Gro, Flora Bloom and Flora Micro series).

I have used the Dyna lineup myself in the past. Only complaint I have with it is when I did use it I would notice "salt buildup" on my leaves. Which isn't nothing to worry about really, just makes me a little on edge lol when I see anything on my leaves that isn't suppose to be there.. I then switched to General Organics. I had recently tested out Neceter for the gods. Really couldnt give an honest opinion on um yet, being I just used the veg.

If you want to use the potting soil you are in and use nutes in bottle, then go with a 1 part for veg and 1 part for flower. Just ask the guys at the hyrdo store what they have in stock.

If you want to make your life really easy and don't mind transplanting, go with a water only soil mix. Pick up a bail of promix bx, 1 bag of ocean forest, 1 box blood meal, 1 box bone meal, 1 bag worm casting, 1 bag perlite, 1 box dolomite lime, 1 small container of myco (ask, they will show you). If you are interested in this option, I, or someone else here, can provide you with the mixing instructions and portions.

Thanks for all the input guys. I wish I asked this question before I transplanted them to their own pots. I'm gunna look into all of those things. Probably also going to stop in a grow shop and see what they have too.

Best of luck with this whatever you try and if it doesn't turn out right just try again. There are so many different ways to do this and end up with stellar results. I mean it's pot, what's not to like?

I would just say keep it simple will make life much easier. I use DynaGro in Fox Farm soil with good results. I have 3 bottles, Gro, Bloom and Pro-Tekt. Prob going to need some PH up and Down too. Just be careful when you go into your hydro store. A lot of times when a noob walks in not knowing what they are looking for they get set up with stuff they don't need like bloom boosters and magic yield maximizers, etc. Get a basic food with micro nutrients in it and you will be fine. You don't need the latest and greatest food that is being marketed for growing weed.

Just start at a very low concentration , and watch the plant closely to learn what it likes or dislikes
It's eazy to over fertlize , in dirt underfertlization is rare

Also grow some vegdies and fertlize them as a learning experiance , Corn has a simmilar nute/growth requirments as MJ

Try looking at some of the grow journals. If you can find a grow or two that has a setup close to yours, then that would be a good GUIDE. Most have that info in the first few posts. Don't set high expectations, because you have to figure out what works for you. You could always start a journal and get input from a bunch of wise growers as you go. Just have thick skin for all the negative folks that tell you that nothing you have done is right

Go pick up the February 2014(hydro report) issue of high times it has a beginners grow guide in it and explains EVERYTHING from people who know what they are taking about. It will be the best 4.99$ investment you make.

I use advanced nutrients iguana juice grow and bloom. Pretty simple and I've had nice results so I stick with it. I have a few other things laying around like bud candy, and overdrive. But I could really get away with the Iguana grow and bloom. I grow in from btw, and don't give any nutrients for at least a month.
