Plant spacing indoor & outdoor ????

What’s the deal I see a lot of people on here with little bitty grow boxes with 20 plants crammed in it. What’s the deal? I’m a new grower don’t you need to have at least 2' x 2' wide and about 6' tall for one plant for an indoor garden. And what’s a good spacing for an outdoor garden?

I am not sure the size of your show, but in my world and the world of many others, we think in tables/lights/trays.

Each 'table' is a 4x4, with a 1000w. I usually put 9-12 2.5-3ft plants in there and they have good coverage that way.

It will depend on how bushy your strain is and other restrictions like size of space, etc. but I would go with 12 3ft plants per table as a rule of thumb. It works for me.

If you have a 2x2 space you aren't going to have 20 plants unless they are smaller than 3ft or a pole plant variety.

uh, well when i do (9) 5 gallons in a 4x4, i give each plant about 14-16 inches of space each. it was pretty compact though, but i really feel this was the perfect amount of space. just make sure you trim leaves when necessary

I have a 5 x 5 room with 1250w hps with 9 plants they are geting some really big buds im not sure if i should try 12 plants next time. they are in 2 gal pots and they are geting about 3' tall.

9 to 12 plants depending on variety and size sounds good to me.

if i have hps on the top should i put cfl on the side and will the ones you buy at home depot work. T-12

im curious about this aswell i have a small closet and have seen people cram plants in without providing light to the bottom ...im growing autoflowers but they are only 5 days old At the moment how many do u think i can get away with in a 2foot wide x 1foot deep x 3 foot tall closet "when there mature" keep in mind these autos only grow 14"tall

My guess is that most of those people are using methods like SOG (sea of green) or SCROG (screen of green) where the idea is to grow large numbers of small plants. These methods rely on a short vegging period to keep the plants from getting too big for the light to penetrate, and in the SCROG method your actually not that worried about penetration because you're training your plants to grow horizontally instead of vertically. These methods are a bit labor intensive, but if you have a small grow area they tend to be more efficient (not to mention faster) then growing 3-4 6 ft plants in the same space.

yep!!sea of green....or for some sea of mold.
