how much "burping" is necessary?

I just put my stuff into jars. Should I be burping 2 times a day for 20 mins? I just let them burp after about 10 hours of being sealed, but there was no moisture build up or anything. Should I be waiting for it to build up before I let them breathe? Also, how long should I be burping them for? a week? Thanks!

I just leave the jar open and give it a move about for an hour a day, then just leave it in a cool dark place. When it's in the jars it should already be pretty much dry, just the stems should hold some moisture required for slow drying which is what curing is. It also breaks down the chlorophyll and turns the bud a more grey colour [better tasting better smoother smoke] and it activates more THC and other cannabinoids. 2 times a day for 20 mins sounds fine to me, just as long as the buds aint wet, but sticky at the max.

thanks. they seem to be really dry even after that 10 hour period sealed up. Could I have let them dry for too long perhaps?

Well, yeah, BUT, it's not a problem. If they ARE crisp dry, i'd add a 1cm X1cm bit of lettuce or something, but if they're not crisp, i wouldnt worry about it. What i'd do if it is pretty dry already is burp them every other day, not EVERY day.

If you add moisture back though, use a tiny bit of whatever at a time, coz you never want to soak them or allow enough moisture to cause mold in the dark.

You should be fine though.

I let my buds hang dry for about 4-5 days after harvesting, but it depends on the strain and the environment they are in. Generally speaking, a good point to put them in jars after drying is when the stems don't bend anymore but when they start to snap.

After they get to that nice point, I put them all in mason jars with rubber seals and open them every 12 hours or so for about 10 minutes. After I close the jars back up, I give them a bit of a shake as to stir them up a bit. I continue to do this for about a week.

After that week is up, I only open them once a day for a minute or two and give them a nice shake as well. I do this for a week as well and after that they should be nice and ready to smoke. If you keep the cure going for longer they will get better, of course, but two weeks is plenty for some good smoke.

Hope this helps! :weed:

What Dillweed said :hump:

Yes, it does make a difference and the longer in the jars the better the smoke is

Burp no matter what.

You don't need to see moisture building. By the time you see it it it may be to late to stop mold.

^^^ i agree with this ^^^^
if i have quite a bit in the jars then it doesnt shake very well, so i need to dump them out and then reload the jars with the buds in a different position.
i will be chopping soon and getting anxious to do some curing. :)

We used to live in Vegas and buds would dry really quick. So if your buds get to dry, get some humidipaks, they are AWESOME!

I have used them many, many times.

I know if done right you can use lettuce to remoisten that which has dried to much. It is less likely to mold it up then say spraying water on it. Plus, it seems to work like a poorman humidore.

But, that is not for curing. As some point it will get as good as it gets, and that is when it's ready. The truth be told most people smoke it up before it ever gets fully cured.

2 days after I jar them, I lay them out on a table for 45 min. Then back into the jars.

my buddy has a hanging dry net and likes to jar for 2 days, hang dry in the net for 6 hours in a temp/humi controlled tent. great tasting buds from him everytime.

that works to maybe help it burn slower if it does get too dry, but in my experience if you dry it too much before the cure it wont cure. you need about 10% moisture in the buds to get a proper cure.
